■ Legacy Chorale announces auditions
for spring concert series
The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota will be holding auditions for its spring 2013 Concert Series from 5-9 p.m. Jan. 3, 2013, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter.
Singers of all voice parts — especially tenors and second basses — are being sought by the chorale’s artistic director, Sarah Aamot. Aamot will be listening for the following musical skills during auditions: Intonation, tone quality (choral sound versus solo), ability to control vibrato and volume, vocal flexibility and expressiveness. A prepared piece is not necessary.
The Legacy will be preparing Celtic music for their spring concert series, including works from Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland. Concerts are currently scheduled for April 11, 13 and 14, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin; Pequot Lakes, as part of the Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts series; and Brainerd.
Upon acceptance into the Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota, singers will be given season schedules, program information and membership guidelines and will be required to sign a “Statement of Understanding” contract, pay a season membership of $25 and pay for the cost of their own concert attire and transportation to rehearsals and concerts.
Rehearsals will be held every Tuesday from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 8, 2013, in the Brainerd High School choir room.
The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota is a non-profit arts organization created by Aamot in the fall of 2001. The group’s mission is “to ensure the legacy of excellence in choral music in the greater Minnesota area while enriching, inspiring and renewing the communities in which we live.”
Singers from any community in Minnesota, large or small, are being encouraged to audition for this opportunity.
