An HGTV series that aims to help people find dream homes on the sand will feature a Brainerd High School graduate this weekend.
Cristina Harty, her husband Joshua, and their four daughters and a son, ages 12, 10, 9, 5 and 3, will all be on the show.
"It was such an amazing experience because we didn't know what to expect," Harty said in a phone interview.
A camera crew of about 10-12 people followed the family around for three days.
"So it was a pretty cool experience," Harty said. "It was three days of straight filming and our kids absolutely loved it."
Harty was active growing up in the lakes area and was involved in sports and pageants. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1999. In 2002, she married Brian Baker and the two had three daughters before Baker died two years after he was diagnosed with cancer.
Harty, who served as a youth pastor in Nisswa, owns Kharisma Finishing School and has a nonprofit video blog ministry called New Beginnings at www.afreshstartatlife.com. After her husband's death, Harty began speaking at conferences with her first one in Brainerd.
New Beginnings Ministries has put on women's conferences since 2002. The website hosts weekly videos, blogs and devotionals. Harty said it's all aimed at helping women to have a new life, a new beginning and a fresh start.
"It's never too late to trust God and move on in life," she said.
Harty had her own fresh start and is now married to her high school sweetheart. Her parents, William and Debbie Borg, continue to live on Crow Wing Lake south of Brainerd. Harty said her father has been in the drywall and construction industry for more than 40 years.
Harty's experience on the "Beach Hunters" show airs at 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, on HGTV.
