No. 4 - College Drive project complete
Ongoing since spring 2012 — with discussion and disputes dating to years before that — construction on College Drive was completed in fall 2012. Included in that completion, the city of Brainerd introduced drivers and the community to roundabouts Oct. 26.
In a memo to staff during a Brainerd City Council meeting Dec. 17, Brainerd City Engineer Jeff Hulsether said the final project cost was estimated at $9,458,592. When including all related expenses with the final cash receivables the total will be approximately $9,696,940.
Hulsether said currently advanced funds of $700,000 can be used and added that he is projecting upon project completion, the city will have roughly $806,000 in eligible reimbursable expenses above what had already been reimbursed. Hulsether said the city will need to reimburse at least $568,000 of that amount to balance project cost with project revenues.
The project work has included four lanes from Crow Wing County Road 48 to South Fourth Street; reconstruction of College Drive and Crow Wing County Road 48 intersection; roundabouts at Mississippi River Parkway, Southwest Fourth Street and South Fourth Street; a stop light at Quince and South Fifth streets; repaving Quince Street to South Sixth Street; trails; sidewalks; bridge improvements; pedestrian crosswalks, flashers and deterrents; lighting improvements; and a backage road to accommodate the apartment buildings.
