Brainerd Elks Lodge will have a Polish sausage feed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Elks Lodge, 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd. Cost: $8.

Brainerd Service League

Brainerd Service League  will have its monthly meeting Tuesday. Hostess is Julie Ingleman with Mary Claire Ryan, Ellen Frank and Claire Faust as servers. The social time is at 11:30 a.m. with lunch and meeting to follow. Members are asked to RSVP if they have not already done so.

 

Ovarian cancer support group to meet Thursday

NISSWA — The Ovarian Cancer Support Group will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nisswa American Legion in the lower level meeting room, located at 25807 Main St., Nisswa.

The meeting is free and ovarian cancer survivors, family members and friends are invited. The public is also welcome to attend. A light snack will be provided. The support group, named Team Teal of the North, is sponsored by the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA, mnovarian.org).

RSVP by calling Teresa Faust, local area volunteer and ovarian cancer survivor, at 963-9566.

Brainerd Eagles Club Mother’s Day breakfast

The Brainerd Eagles Club will have its Mother’s Day breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at 124 Front St., Brainerd, featuring the Eagles’ special for $6.

Baxter Lions

The Baxter Lions Club will meet on Monday at Camp Vanasek. The board meeting is at 6 p.m. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting is at 7 p.m.

Backus Legion schedules fishing opener events

BACKUS — The Backus American Legion will welcome anglers arriving for the Minnesota fishing opener with a series of events.

On Friday, the day before the opener, the Post will serve Reuben sandwiches with chips for $4 a plate from 4 p.m. until gone. That will be followed by the Friday night meat raffle at 5:30 p.m. and bingo at 7:30 p.m. On May 15 there will be dancing and dinner. The Frankie Lamb Band, playing classic country and pop, old time and swing, will return from 2 to 6 p.m. for the monthly dance. Singles, couples, everybody welcome.

The dance will be followed by a dinner sponsored by the Cass County Agricultural Association from 6 p.m. until gone for $7.25 a plate. Dinner proceeds will go to 4-H prize premiums at the Cass County Fair.

Brainerd Garden Club

The Brainerd Garden Club will meet noon Friday at Northland Arboretum for a salad luncheon potluck. Rich Dreissig will present a program on ornamental grasses. Hostesses are Jackie Froemming and Margarita Price.

NAARFE to meet

The Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Tuesday at the Sawmill Inn, Brainerd. Social time starts at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. A presentation will be by Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl.

Senior dance

A senior dance will be from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at Motley with music by Country Pride.

American Diabetes Association meeting

The Brainerd Lakes Area Chapter of the American Diabetes Association meeting will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bonanza in Baxter. There will be a presentation on lung health and diabetes by Karla Provost, respiratory therapist.

Class of 1952

The class of 1952 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bonanza for lunch. All classmates, spouses and friends are welcome.

Wild and Free garage sale

GARRISON — The Wild and Free Wildlife Rehabilitation Program will have a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14 at the Garrison VFW. All proceeds will go to the Wild and Free program.

Crosslake Chautauqua program

CROSSLAKE — The Crosslake Chautauqua Program will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Crosslake Community Center. The program will be presenter Dr. Peter Stokman discussing “The Road Map to Heart Health,” the impact of lifestyle on cardiovascular health.

Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)

Alpha Chapter No. 23 OES

Alpha Chapter No. 23 OES will honor mothers at the meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Masonic Hall. Servers will be Glenn and Faye Brown.

Cooking with Kids event planned

The Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition in partnership with the Brainerd Public Library will be offering a Cooking with Kids event from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Public Library during story time. No registration is required and the event is free. We will engage the children in preparation of a snack and offer parent education time. The Good Samaritan Society-Bethany volunteer appreciation open house will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the community room.

VFW Post No. 1647 and Auxiliary will have a memorial service for its deceased members at 7 p.m. Wednesday. VFW Auxiliary Friday dinner will be all-you-can-eat fish serving from 5:30 p.m. until gone Friday at the VFW.

Sunday breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon May 15 at the VFW Post No. 1647, 309 South Sixth St., Brainerd.

German from Russia Heritage Group to meet

The Brainerd area Germans from Russia Heritage Group will meet from 1-3 p.m. May 15 in the fireside room at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Brainerd. The video “It’s All Earth and Sky” will be shown. Come visit and share with others of German-Russian heritage to discuss and develop a better understanding of our history and culture.
