Arlene Christopherson

Age: 76.

Residence: Baxter.

What are you doing?: Christopherson just finished eating lunch Nov. 4 at the Lutheran Social Services dining site, located in the basement of the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center in Brainerd.

Do you come for the LSS meal often?: “I come to eat lunch four to five days a week here. I don’t like to eat alone and I like to be here for the socialization. If I stayed at home, I’d eat a lot of junk food. This is my main meal of the day.”

Your favorite LSS meal?: “The sweet and sour pork over rice. I also like their chili.”

What else do you do at the senior center: “I do the Bone Builders exercise program three times a week. I started two months ago and I can see I have more strength.”

What did you do before you retired? “I retired in 2001 from the Brainerd School District. I worked as a cook at Harrison Elementary School. I also helped start the lunch program at St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School.”

Favorite meal you make for your family: “My husband liked meatballs and mashed potatoes.”

Family: “My husband Clayton (who passed away in May), four children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.”

Favorite childhood memory: “When I was young I lived in Hermantown. When I was 4 or 5, I’d sit at the corner of the countertop and help my mother with meals.”

Greatest achievement: “My husband, who I was married to for 54 years.”
