I would simply like to thank the Brainerd/Baxter businesses who are bicycle-friendly by providing “hitching posts” for our bikes, and the Holiday gas stations for providing free air. We’re getting there!

HART hosted the first annual baby shower and it was a huge success. I would like to thank everyone who donated food and supplies for the “babies” and attended the shower. The lobby was packed with donations as well as potential adopters. It is so heartwarming to see the support of the community.

Thank you from the staff and animals.

“We did it’

To the communities of Staples, Motley, Aldrich, Leader, Baxter, Brainerd, Wadena, Nisswa, Aitkin, Emily, Browerville and Westbrook “We did it!” Let us collectively remember that April 11-14, 2012, we showed in many different ways our love, support, gratitude and thankfulness to all the veterans that answered the call “to serve” our country and we also remembered those veterans that never returned home. To Arnold, Glen, Clarence, Dale, Bill, Ray, Richard, Chuck, Marv, William, Gerard, Joe, Tom, Les, Don, Morris, Lloyd, Maurice, Don, Jerome, Rueben, Charles, Peter, Tim, John, Huck, Cecil, Ana and Daniel we would like to say, “Thanks for what you did for us. Your service is appreciated and what you did for us was right, honorable, and valuable.”

There were several comments from the veterans on this trip that were memorable: phrases like, “unbelievable,” “This is really something,” “I can hardly believe how many strangers came up to me and simply said ‘Thank You’ and shook my hand!,” “I wasn’t expecting to feel like this,” “Frank, I got 256 letters. Do you believe that?” “Did you hear the good things the pilot said about us on the airplane?” “That Wreath Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown was awesome!”

We achieved our goal; we escorted 22 veterans to Washington, D.C., to show our gratitude and to recognize their service to our country. The send-off, the trip, and the welcome home were events that I am sure were memorable for each of them.

Finally, a huge thank you to our communities for the financial commitment that made all of this possible. God Bless us, God bless our veterans, and God bless the United States of America.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
