Residence: Fort Ripley.
What are you doing right now (June 7): “I’m at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center in Brainerd to play pinochle. They say I teach it. I started the club last January and there are about five to eight of us who play.
“I’ve been playing pinochle since eighth grade. My grandma and Roy, my husband, were always partners and always won. My partner would be whoever would be there ... Once you learn the game you don’t want to quit.”
Other card games: Kings Corner, Rummy and Solitaire.
Recent project: “Working on our vegetable garden and landscaping. We have a 2,400-square-foot garden with every vegetable, you name it we got it. We live on three acres and we also have several raised beds. This year we are working on our landscaping and building a retaining wall.”
Do you can: “About 300 jars a year.”
Favorite food TV show: “Next Food Network Star.”
Perfect meal: Pork roast, roasted potatoes, green beans and apple sauce.
Career before retirement: “I was an at home day care provider for more than 25 years in Illinois.”
Day care stories: “I had at one time five children from the same family who’s names all began with ‘J.’ One time I had twins who were premature. One girl was 12-ounces and the other was a pound and a half. It was fun to watch them grow up. They were a joy and always smiling.”
Family: One son and one grandson.
