Do you volunteer: “I am a Crow Wing County Master Gardener and I volunteer with ‘Operation: Grow and Learn’ at the Northland Arboretum. I help plant, grow and weed it and overlook the whole garden. This year we are getting giant pumpkins.”

Why a Master Gardener: “I’ve been a Master Gardener for 12 years and I enjoy everything about it. I enjoy helping kids and teaching them about how food grows and that it doesn’t just come from a grocery store.”

Favorite thing to grow: Basil and tomatoes

Favorite thing to cook: “Italian, especially lasagna.”

Family: Wife, Shari; two children, Halee, 19, and Chris, 16

Upcoming trip: “We’re going to the North Shore to see the fall colors.”

If you were a plant which one would you be and why: “Basil because it is pretty and so aromatic and it adds so much flavor to dishes.”

Bucket list: “Take the family to Alaska.”

Your best outdoor adventure: “Caribou hunting in Quebec a few years back with two of my closest friends. It was fun.”

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
