'The Center' for information
Clara moved to the beautiful lakes area more than 30 years ago. She has had the gift of good health, but Ted, her husband of 56 years, passed away last year. Clara decided that it was time to move closer to Brainerd. Staying active, informed and knowing what is going on in the community are important to Clara. She began to research the opportunities that exist in the community.
The Morning Club at The Center was one of the groups that she checked out. Clara found they meet once a week, Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. Each week the presenter is a different person from the community. The Wednesday Clara attended she heard Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl speak on self-defense. She found it very interesting. She asked if there was a schedule of future presenters and was given a list. Clara marked them on her calendar so she could plan ahead. She thought others might want to attend, too.
The Morning Club Speakers:
• Oct. 17: Curt Mowers, Minnesota Highway Patrol, “Safe Driving”
• Oct. 24: Sheila Haverkamp, Brainerd Lakes Economic Development, “Executive Initiative Program”
• Oct. 31: Mike Steichen, Essentia Health, “Physical Conditioning”
• Nov. 7: Debbie Rowe, travel expert, “Cruisin’”
• Nov. 14: Ed Yunker, “Geritol Frolics”
Each presentation takes place at 9:30 a.m. in the Craft Room. Clara found that along with the speaker, the group also has fresh coffee and The Center’s doughnuts; just another great reason to join the presentations.
I hope those interested will cut out the schedule or make notes on his or her calendar of the presentations that are of interest. The Center would love to have others join the Morning Club or participate in any of the 27+ weekly activities, events or programs that take place. If not familiar with who and what The Center is, please stop in for a tour. The Center is located at 803 Kingwood St., Brainerd.
DEANN BARRY is The Center’s director.
