Isaac Overland

Grade: Senior.

Age: 17.

Art focus: Brainerd High School (BHS) Advanced TV Productions.

Adviser nomination: “Isaac has been with the TV Productions program at BHS for three years. He works hard at putting in extra effort in the projects he works on. Isaac can be found in the TV Pro Room before school, during lunch and open hours as well as after school.”

Artist most admired: Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Memorable fine arts achievement: “Going to the Minnesota State Fair with a video I did in 2012. I received grand champion for it. The video was a compilation of the ‘Warrior Update’ episodes.

“I also had videos featured in Ego Fest in 2009 and 2011 (that are memorable).”

Tell me about your videos at Ego Fest: “The one in 2009 was my first film. I made the film with my little brother and sister and it was about a guy who stole babies. I recorded it with a small digital camera. I was the youngest person at the fest by 20 years. I didn’t win any trophies, but I learned some tricks and stuff.

“The video in 2011 was a remake of a previous one I made. It was about a guy who gets knocked out for a month and when he returns no one even noticed that he was gone.”

What do you like about TV Pro: “I have liked movies my entire life. I like making films, editing them is fun and I like coming up stories, I like all of it.”

Your favorite role: “I like all of them, but if I had to pick one it would be the director. So then if I didn’t come up with the stories I can still have some input in it.”

Other role in TV Pro: “I also do a small (TV) episode that runs after the ‘Warrior Update’ that has a plot. Three others and I do it. Right now the plot is about four people who are kidnapped and they are ready to escape because they called their future selves to come save them,”

Film you’d like to produce: “I’d like to do some comedies. I have some ideas for a documentary, too. I like to push the envelope with controversy (issues).”

Plan to do anything with this after high school: “I am going to Century College in White Bear Lake for film or Lake Superior College in Duluth. I’d like to work in film. My ultimate goal is to work for Valve Corporation (an American video game development and digital distribution company in Washington.)”

Best TV show: “Mushi-Shi.”

Favorite book: “Bombinomicon.”

Worst movie ever: “I like watching bad movies. My favorite (movie is) ‘Eternal Sunshine in a Spotless Mind.’”

Favorite band: Pink Floyd.

Hobbies: Playing video games, making terrible films, browsing the Internet and watching TV shows.

Favorite sandwich: Plain white bread, turkey and barbecue sauce.

Parents: John and Karla Overland of Baxter.

Honorable Mention: Isaac Johnson, senior, art: “Isaac Johnson is one of our top notch potters who is proficient producing pottery that is consistent in form and glaze color. Isaac works hard to complete all assigned work so he is able to spend extra time on more difficult and original pottery pieces. Isaac is always willing to give an extra hand and approaches class with a strong ethic and good attitude.”
