Love animals? Have a little extra space in the yard? Want to raise nutritious food in the backyard? The 4-H Chick Chain Program may be the answer.

The Chick Chain Program is designed to give new and existing 4-H members in third grade and older the chance to learn more about raising backyard chickens. Youths have an opportunity to learn life skills while having fun learning about chickens and the poultry industry.

The Crow Wing County 4-H Poultry Club, along with sponsors, will award 10 laying hen chicks to each 4-H participant who qualifies for the program. Chicks will be purchased from a reputable hatchery and will be properly vaccinated.

For more information or to apply, contact Michelle Bernatsky at michellebernatsky@gmail.com. Applications are due Thursday. To enroll or learn more about 4-H, contact the Extension office at 218-824-1069.
