Books 'n Stuff' sale Saturday

AITKIN - St. John's Episcopal Church in Aitkin will have their annual "Books 'n Stuff" sale is 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 30, at the church, 222 SE First Street in Aitkin. Proceeds will go to support Heartland Animal Rescue Team animal shelter in Baxter. With that theme, an assortment of used toys in good condition will be offered as well as books and other items (no clothing items).

Toys, household items and books can still be accepted, but must be brought to the church at 10 a.m. Friday.

Summer Gospel Concert Saturday

The Malmo Evangelical Free Church is presenting Jim Lee from Brainerd in his 20th appearance at the summer concerts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the church, located near the junction of Highways 47 and 18 on Highway 18 near the northeast corner of Lake Mille Lacs.

Refreshments will be available and a free will offering will be received.

Couples retreat planned

Bethlehem will be hosting a Couple's Retreat from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 20.

The "For Better...Forever" retreat is led by Ron Hunt, a licensed psychologist in Minnesota and an ordained pastor and spiritual director. The cost is $130.

Pray for Jerusalem

There will be a gathering to pray for Jerusalem from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Edgewood Vista, 14890 Beaver Dam Road.

The theme is from "911: An Urgent Call to Pray for Jerusalem."

First Lutheran Church

The fall/winter worship schedule beginning Sept. 7 is 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services with the first and third Sunday Holy Communion, 9:15 a.m. coffee fellowship, 9:15 a.m. Sunday school, 9:15 a.m. Messy Munchies on the second Sunday of the month.

Sunday School rally at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 7 with a gathering at the sanctuary to meet the teacher.

Bluegrass concert

Crosslake Christian Assembly of God will host its monthly bluegrass concert Sunday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at the church, 13919 County Road 36, Crosslake. There will be gospel bluegrass music featuring a variety of instruments and styles.

Holy Cross Church bazaar

HARDING — Holy Cross Church will host an all-day bazaar on Sunday. Following the 10 a.m. polka mass, a chicken and ham dinner will be served.

The event includes homemade Polish coffee cakes and pies. Hamburgers will be served all day and evening.

Cost is $9 for adults and $3 for children younger than age 12. Children age 5 and younger are free. Music is by Dale Dahmen and the Polka Beats and Virg and the Eldorados. Live old-time and country music is planned all afternoon. There will be entertainment for the children, fancy work, bingo and refreshments.

The church is 19 miles south of Brainerd on Highway 25, then 4 miles east and watch for signs.
