Taize Prayer planned

LITTLE FALLS—The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls invite all Christians to join with them for Taize Prayer 6 p.m. Thursday in the Gathering Space at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls.

Taize Prayer is a reflective, meditative prayer experience that includes sung chants. Gather for an hour with the beauty of lighted candles, the San Damiano Cross, songs, chants, scripture readings, petitionary prayers and contemplative silence to experience Christ's presence. In the sacred space of contemplative silence God often touches us deeply, and healing and transformation happen. This unique style of prayer originated at the ecumenical community in Taize, France, and has spread around the globe. Taize Prayer is open to the public; people of all Christian traditions are welcome to attend. The prayer of Jesus "that all may be one" is your special invitation to come.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church plans building renovation

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 418 Eighth Ave. NE in northeast Brainerd, serves 19 community partners in the Brainerd lakes area by opening its doors, at no charge, to be used in varying capacities. In an effort to enhance their ability to serve the community and their partners, they have taken on a project to renovate their existing kitchen to a commercial kitchen. and remodel their fellowship hall starting in early November of 2017.

The congregation received an anonymous donation of $75,000 to be used for this renovation project, with the stipulation the congregation would raise the first $75,000 on their own. The congregation then agreed to a total projected cost of no more than $400,000. Members of the congregation quickly met the $75,000 matching requirement and is proceeding with the renovation.

The congregation will be celebrating this project by having a dedication blessing at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, (after the 10:30 a.m. worship service), in the current fellowship hall.

Work on the project is expected to start in early November 2017 and is planned to be completed by late February of 2018. The congregation will take out a loan for about half the project cost and hopes to raise funds through donations and pledges to completely pay for this project within the next three years.

Upgrading to a commercial kitchen and remodeling the fellowship hall to accommodate more guests will help to provide more opportunities for the congregation to serve the community. This endeavor has been named "Bethlehem Serves," as the congregation seeks to be a model for service in the community. Along with the congregation's own use of the building for events, funerals and services, some of their community partners include; Operation Sandwich, Lutheran Social Services, New Pathways, Brainerd Public Schools, Legacy Chorale and the Lakes Area Restorative Justice Project.

Additional information, including a list of community partners, is provided in a YouTube video the Church has released; https://youtu.be/O5GlR0LIu4E.
