Clergy View: A race to run
".... let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us. Looking away (from all that will distract) to Jesus..." Hebrews 12:1-2a Amplified Bible
This passage is so loaded with good stuff that it is hard for me to stay focused on what I want to convey.
Each one of us has a God given race to run. My race does not look like your race and vice versa. God created us as individuals to have a unique and special relationship with Him. In Ephesians 1 the great Apostle Paul tells us, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that as individuals we have been chosen to be adopted as His own children. Not every person is a child of God. We are all His creation, but we must accept His love and grace to become His child. In fact, in John 8:44 Jesus told the religious leaders "You are of your father, the devil..."
Do we understand or even believe that the Holy Creator God, who dwells in unapproachable light, before whom the angels cover their eyes and heaven is loud with the wild praises of He who sits on the throne and of the Lamb, yes, that God, the only true God, has called you into special relationship with Himself? He is a good, good Father! And you are loved by Him.
I truly believe that if we could really understand the depth, the length, the height and breadth of His love and apply that truth to our own lives, all wars and unrest, hatred, murder and evil would come to a screeching halt.
Revelation 11:15 tells of a day when the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself will rule and reign on planet Earth for ever and ever! And His kingdom will forever be a kingdom of peace! What a day that will be!
Have you taken Him as Lord of your life? In John 3:3 Jesus said, "Except a man be born again, he will not see the kingdom of God." And in John 14:6 Jesus made this bold statement, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me."
Have you confessed your sin and accepted His love and grace? Have you been born again? On that day He will not want to know if you have been faithful to church, taught Sunday School, been baptized, sang in the choir or tithed...the question will be "What have you done with Jesus?"
It appears that His coming may be very soon. I beg you, if you do not know Him as Lord and Savior today, come to Him humbly confessing that you are a sinner in need of a savior.
He has a race for you to run. The goal, the "winner's circle" will be eternity in the kingdom of peace and joy.
