Winter Wonderland

Thank you, Sertoma and your sponsors, for the beautiful Winter Wonderland Christmas light display at Northland Arboretum. All of the displays were delightful and entertaining, but most special were the scenes depicting the Biblical account of Christ's birth; baby Jesus in the manger, the star over the little town of Bethlehem, shepherds, angels and wise men. It was encouraging to see that the reason we celebrate Christmas was not left out. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. May we always give him his rightful place in our community, our homes and in our hearts.

Salute to veterans

On behalf of our fallen heroes we would like to take this time and thank the Brainerd Dispatch's Steve Kohls for taking part in the Pearl Harbor ceremony on Dec. 7 and taking a great photo of the VFW color guard and always remembering our U.S. soldiers and veterans of foreign wars. To all of our veterans and those serving overseas we are all proud of you and thank you for our freedom. Have a blessed holiday season.

Shoe box project

Operation Christmas Child is now shipping out their shoe boxes. Thanks to everyone. Especially many thanks to Steve Mau and Brainerd Rental who were so kind to donate a closed-in trailer to transport over 700 boxes from Grace Covenant Church drop off site in Little Falls to Baxter Evangelical Church to be loaded on semi-trailer to be transported to Minneapolis and other points on the way to children for Christmas. What a blessing.

Radiothon success

The Crow Wing County Child Protection Team would like to thank the Crow Wing County community for its response to the 17th Annual Radiothon to End Child Abuse.

Thanks to the generosity of many, over $60,000 was raised to support local children and their families, bringing the total dollars raised over the years past the one million mark! We are indebted to Mike Boen and his entire staff at BL Broadcasting for their hard work and dedication towards making each and every Radiothon such a success.

Thanks to Karen Schirmer's third grade class at Riverside Elementary for creating Radiothon radio ads. Thanks to KFC, McDonald's and Papa John's of Crosby for providing refreshments for volunteers. Thanks to Bruce Johnson & Associates for accounting services and to the Phone Zone for phone lines. Thanks to Westgate Mall for their hospitality, Prairie Bay Grill and Catering for hosting auction volunteers and Comfort Suites for accommodations. Special thanks to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Kohl's for financial support and volunteers. A huge thank you to Ann Sherman of Midwest Captions who again volunteered countless hours setting up the Radiothon web site at brainerd.com. Thanks to the many volunteers who answered phones lines and to all that donated auction items. Thanks to the Collaborative Service Team who organized the brat sale at the Westgate Mall with the support of Von Hanson's, Cub Foods and Pepsi.

Finally, thank you to all who pledged money to this important cause to help make this event such a success. We consider ourselves privileged to live in a community that values children and families, and look forward to working together in the coming year.
