Burgau to speak

Mrs. Kathy Burgau will be speaking at New Beginnings Bible Church at 10 a.m. Sunday. “‘I could be your sister, your daughter, your wife...and hopefully someday a mother!’ That was the ending to her speech for the Mrs. Minnesota International Pageant 12 years ago. Burgau received first runner-up and was asked to run again but she said no. Her next goal was to try for children.

Diagnosed at the age of 26 with breast cancer, her survival would be based on her attitude and the regimen of chemotherapy she had to endure; all with the hope of having children one day. Burgau has been involved as lobbyist for the Young Survival Coalition in Washington DC, local TV news, documentaries, newspaper articles, radio shows, organizational speaker, public service announcements, book “Fighting for our Future,” SELF magazine, MOMENT International magazine, National Photo Exhibit, MN BCAA Sense of Style, honorary chairperson for Roger Maris Cancer Center, honorary chairperson for Relay for Life, patient advocate for the new Fergus Falls Cancer Center, and just elected to the Lake Region HealthCare Foundation Board of Directors.

Come and hear this story of one miracle after another in the life of this “girl next door.” A free-will offering will be collected to defray expenses. For more information call Pastor Bob Kemper at 821-2170.

New Beginnings Bible Church is located at 923 Oak St. in Brainerd.
