Crosslake Lutheran welcomes new pastor

CROSSLAKE — The 1,300-member congregation of Crosslake Lutheran Church, Crosslake, welcomes Pastor Greg Larsen as their new pastor. Pastor Larsen comes to this church community from Princeton where he and his wife Barb have raised their three sons and he had been a senior pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Prior to his call, he had spent a number of years managing Lutheran Community Services for Thrivent Financial.

Pastor Larsen will be formally installed as the pastor of Crosslake Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The officiant will be Pastor Vicky Taylor, assistant to Bishop Thomas M. Aitken of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The synod is comprised of 142 congregations and extends from Princeton to Little Falls, Walker and International Falls, as well as to Duluth and the North Shore.

All-you-can-eat soup supper

LITTLE FALLS — The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls will host an all-you-can-eat soup supper fundraiser from 4:30-7 p.m. Feb. 4 at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls. Three varieties of homemade soups, chicken wild rice, beef barley vegetable and tomato tortellini, fresh baked cracked wheat and white bread, homemade bars and beverages will be served. Ticket prices include adults, $7.50; children (5-12 years), $4; children under 5 years, free. Dinner tickets will be available at the door or by calling (320) 632-2981, Monday-Saturday. Proceeds from the Soup Supper will benefit St. Francis Health and Recreation Center and St. Francis Music Center, Little Falls.

New Pathways community forum

Homeless families with children are the fastest growing section of homelessness in Minnesota. Wilder Research estimates that approximately 3,900 children are homeless with their parents, on any given night in Minnesota. New Pathways, Inc., is holding a community forum at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Come learn about our local efforts to serve homeless families through New Pathways and the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Have the opportunity to ask questions and help us understand our community’s vision for future service.

St. Francis baby shower

St. Francis Catholic Church of Brainerd is holding a baby shower for Birthright on the 39th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. On Sunday, everyone is invited to bring new, unwrapped baby items (diapers, onuses, sleepers, blankets, etc.) and place them into the playpen in the back of the church. Monetary donations can be left at the parish office or placed in an envelope in the Sunday collection. The baby shower is sponsored by St. Francis Council of Catholic Women.

First Lutheran Church activities

First Lutheran Church, 424 S. 8th St., Brainerd, will have worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Those interested should stay for a half-hour practice of an intergenerational choir following the 10:30 a.m. service. Families of all shapes and sizes from the youngest to oldest are invited. Meet in the choir room to learn a simple song which will be shared at the 10:30 a.m. service Feb. 5.

A wild game feed will be held at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd following the second service on Sunday. The luncheon is sponsored by the FLC Youth who will be attending the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer. For questions, call Vicki Foss at 829-9552.

First Lutheran Church in Brainerd will host Interfaith Hospitality Network guests from Sunday through Feb. 5. There are still volunteer opportunities available for members of the congregation. Please see the dry-erase board in the lobby near Koinonia to volunteer for this ministry.
