Veeda Javaid to speak
First Presbyterian Church of Brainerd will have Veeda Javaid speak at the worship service at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
Javaid has been the executive director of Presbyterian Education Board in Pakistan (PEB). The PEB is an autonomous board operating under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan and supported by Presbyterian Church (USA) and other churches and organizations worldwide. The aim of the Presbyterian Education Board is to provide quality education at an affordable cost.
The schools of the PEB, founded by Presbyterian missionaries in the mid-1800s, mainly target the poor and rural children of Pakistan.
Women’s retreat planned
NISSWA — Christ Community Church, Nisswa, is having a women’s spring weekend retreat from April 13-15. The women will leave the evening of April 13 and head to Miracle Bible Camp in Longville for a weekend of fun, food and fellowship. They will return the afternoon of April 15. Cost is $65. Trinity to observe Holy Week
Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 South Sixth St., Brainerd, has scheduled several services in observance of Holy Week.
The week will begin with the traditional Palm Sunday processional services with Holy Communion. The services are scheduled for 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Pastor Hans Anderson will be preaching.
The Wednesday night Lenten services will conclude with intern Jenny McLellan preaching on “Entitled” at 6 p.m. The “Recovery Road” discussion will follow the service. A soup supper will be held at 5 p.m. served by the senior choir.
On Maundy Thursday, there will be a service of healing along with Holy Communion beginning at 8 p.m. Pastor David Holte will be preaching on the topic “This Meal Brings Healing.”
The week’s observance will conclude with the Good Friday Tenebrae service. This is a service of lesson readings and music which will begin at 8 p.m.
Sunday worship services are broadcast over KVBR Radio 1340 AM on Sunday at 9 a.m. and the previous week service is telecast over Channel 8 at 1 p.m.

Bethlehem Lutheran services planned
On Palm Sunday Bethlehem Lutheran of Brainerd have two worship services with Holy Communion at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. In between services we will have breakfast in the Fellowship Hall and Sunday School students will watch a movie. Spring pops concert set for April 15
LITTLE FALLS — St. Francis Music Center proudly presents “The Sforzando String Orchestra” and “The Con Brio String Orchestra” in a spring pops concert at 3 p.m. April 15 in Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Francis Convent, Little Falls.
The string concerts have become a community favorite; all ages will enjoy this free concert. Little Falls is one of the few communities nationwide that is able to claim two string orchestras without having string programs in any area schools. The public is invited to attend this free concert. There will be baskets for freewill donations. The String Orchestras are supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board, US Bank, private donations, and the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls. LITTLE FALLS — The Franciscan Sisters announced its Holy Week Services at Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Francis Convent, Little Falls. The schedule is as follows: Palm Sunday, 8:30 a.m., Blessing of Palms and Eucharist; Holy Thursday, 7 p.m., Mass of the Lord’s Supper followed with Adoration until 10 p.m.; Good Friday, 11 a.m., Stations of the Cross, and 2 p.m., Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion; Holy Saturday, April 7, 8 p.m., Easter Vigil with fellowship following; and Easter Sunday, April 8, 8:30 a.m., Eucharist.

The Clothes Review closed for Holy Week
LITTLE FALLS — The Clothes Review, located on St. Francis Campus, Little Falls, will be closed for Holy Week/Easter from Thursday to April 9. No donations of clothing will be accepted during that time. However, if emergency assistance is needed, call (320) 632-2981. The Clothes Review will reopen on April 10.
Silent Walk for Peace
LITTLE FALLS — The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls and members of First United Church, Little Falls, invite the public to attend a Silent Walk for Peace on Good Friday at 9:30 a.m. Join us in a silent walk for peace beginning in the west parking lot at St. Francis Center, Little Falls.
Participants will take turns carrying a cross, which will lead the procession from one site to another in silence. Beginning with a prayer and song, participants will walk to various locations throughout the area.

Brainerd Laestadian Church to have guest speaker
The Brainerd Laestadian Lutheran Church will have a guest speaker, Kevin Ruonavaara, of Seattle, for worship services will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. followed with coffee and refreshments. Palm Sunday services will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch and a concluding service at 1 p.m. Coffee and refreshments will be served after the 1 p.m. service. Feast of Divine Mercy celebrated in Crosslake
The Feast of Divine Mercy, celebrated on the Octave of Easter (the Sunday after Easter Sunday), is a relatively new addition to the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar. Celebrating the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ, as revealed by Christ Himself to Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, this feast was extended to the entire Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II on April 30, 2000, the day that he canonized Saint Faustina.
In the Brainerd Deanery, a special observance in honor of the Feast of Divine Mercy will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Crosslake, on April 15. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 1:30-3 p.m. Enthroning of the Divine Mercy Icon will begin at 2 p.m. with readings and songs to follow. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited at 3 p.m. with Mass immediately following. A Eucharistic Procession and the Praises of Divine Mercy will conclude the observance. A pasta dinner with freewill offering will be served at 5 p.m.
Carry the cross event
Everyone of all faiths are invited to help carry the cross from Deerwood to Crosby as a sign of unity on Good Friday. There will be busing from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Crosby, to Deerwood. From 12:30-3 p.m., walk, pray and fellowship to Crosby. Security will be provided by our local and state law authority. Bathroom facilities provided by Goble Services. One-day vacation Bible school
Resurrection Run, a one-day vacation Bible school will be Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, 13815 Cherrywood Dr., Baxter. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends after lunch at 1 p.m. There will be lessons, activities, and music all centered around the resurrection of Jesus Christ for ages birth to fifth grade. FLC services and events
First Lutheran Church, 424 South Eighth St., Brainerd, will have a traditional Palm Sunday liturgy and pageantry including children marching through the aisles, waving palms and singing of Jesus’ triumphant arrival to Jerusalem. The Middle School Bell choir, under the direction of Jeff and JoAnn Lewis, will share special music at both services. An Easter chorale cantata entitled “Harvest of Sorrows” will also be shared at both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday. The cantata singers and musicians are under the direction of Marcus Aulie.
Holy Week at First Lutheran Church, Brainerd, will not have activities, supper or services on Wednesday. Join them instead for worship on Maundy Thursday at 4:30 or 7 p.m. The First Lutheran First Communion class will receive their first communion during the 7 p.m. service Thursday. A Lenten soup supper will be served between services in Koinonia. There will be a solemn and important service at 7 p.m. Good Friday.
The First Lutheran (Brainerd) Youth, who will be attending the National Youth Gathering, will be holding a fundraiser Wednesday at Pizza Ranch in Baxter. A portion of all dine-in evening meal sales and tips will go to the FLC Youth Group.
Holy Week at Good Shepherd
Holy Week at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church will have Palm Sunday services with Sunday school at 9 a.m. and worship at 10 a.m.
Maundy Thursday services will be 7 p.m. with Communion. The message of the “Personality of the Passion” this week will be “Simon of Cyrene: Jesus fellow cross-bearer.”
Good Friday service will be 7 p.m. April 6.
Easter Sunday services will be 9 a.m. April 8. Note the time change.
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Holy Week services
Holy Week services at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will begin with Palm Sunday services with Holy Community at 9 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school and youth and adult Bible class will follow the church service.
Maundy Thursday services will be 7 p.m. with Holy Communion.
The Tenebrae Vesper service will be 7:30 p.m. April 6.

MERRIFIELD — Celebrate the Resurrection at Ossipee Community Church, County Road 3 and County Road 109 intersection, north of Merrifield, with the following services and activities: Palm Sunday service will be 9:15 a.m. Sunday with a choir cantata by the choir of First Baptist Church of Baxter performing. The morning worship service will be 10:30 a.m. Good Friday services will be 7 p.m. April 6 with a DVD called “The Messiah, Prophecy Fulfilled.” Easter Sunday, April 8, will be Resurrection Sunday. There will be an Easter breakfast at 8 a.m. At 9:15 a.m. is Christian Education, the study of the Living Word. Morning worship will be 10:30 a.m. and the message is on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
