HILLMAN — A pancake breakfast will be Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hillman, at the junction of Highways 27 and CR 47.
HILLMAN — A spaghetti supper will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hillman.
Adults will be $7; under 10 will be $3.50; and under 5, free.
PEQUOT LAKES — Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes will host its annual lutefisk and meatball supper from 3-8 p.m. Sept. 29 at the church on Main and Brown streets, one block west of the stoplight in Pequot Lakes.
Cost is $14 for adults; $6 for children ages 5-12; and free for children ages 4 and younger. Tickets will only be sold at the door. There are no advance sales.
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church
PINE RIVER — Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pine River is having an old fashioned turkey dinner on Sunday. We will also be having a country corner with homemade canned goods, fall crafts and fresh produce from our gardens. Adults, $9; children 12 and under, $5; and maximum of $32 for a family.
This week at Trinity
Trinity Lutheran Church of Brainerd will continue Wednesday evening meals in the fellowship hall prior to the evening worship service this week. The meal begins at 5:15 p.m. followed by an informal worship service with Holy Communion in the sanctuary at 6 p.m.
Katie Slack will be preaching her first service at Trinity on Sunday. Katie is serving the year at as an intern at Trinity before returning to Luther Seminary in St. Paul for her final year of study.
There will be two services on Sunday with Holy Communion at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The Education Hour and Coffee Hour will be held between the services. Trinity is located at 1620 South Sixth St.
Grandparents’ Day potluck
The Church On The Wise Road, 10345 Wise Road (CR 49), Brainerd, will have a grandparents’ day potluck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Bring a dish to share. There will be a block party trailer and bouncy house and snow cones.
Goldrush, a bluegrass gospel group, will start the festivities at the 11 a.m. service and will give a concert after lunch.
The Miles Family will have cart and pony rides again this year.
Brainerd Laestadian Lutheran Church
The Brainerd Laestadian Lutheran Church, 1501 South Eighth St., will have a guest speaker, George Koivukangas from Cokato. for the 11 a.m. worship service.
Centering prayer and sacred reading
LITTLE FALLS — The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls invite the public to join them for Breathing Meditation (Centering Prayer) and Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading) from 6-7 p.m. Thursday in the Gathering Space at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls. Centering Prayer is an ancient and contemporary way of prayer. In a small group, persons gather for 20-30 minutes to pray in quiet, listening openness to God’s presence and action in one’s life. Centering Prayer is experiencing a relationship with God as well as a discipline to foster that relationship. It is a movement beyond conversation with God to communion with God. That is followed by “Lectio Divina,” a reflection on the coming Sunday Scriptures. Come, the third Thursday of the month, gather with sisters and members of all faiths to ponder God’s presence in your life, and open yourself to receive the gift of a closer union with God. PEQUOT LAKES — Grace United Methodist Church of Pequot Lakes will hold its 11th annual fall all-you-can-eat pasty dinner from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 21. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-11 and free for children under 6. No reservations are necessary. Proceeds will benefit local church missions and programs. Grace United Methodist Church is located 1.7 miles south of the lights in Pequot Lakes on Highway 371.
Grace UMC of Pequot Lakes to hold Pizza Ranch fundraiser
PEQUOT LAKES — Grace United Methodist Church Youth of Pequot Lakes will be bussing tables and serving guests at the Pizza Ranch in Baxter from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 24. The Pizza Ranch will donate 10 percent of sales and all tips to Grace UMC’s Youth.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church adult
This week Bethlehem Lutheran in Brainerd will begin an adult learning series title “Good God Questions,” discussing topics such as human suffering, hell, the resurrection, heaven, and much more. Join leading faculty members from Luther Seminary via DVD who address Good God Questions with honesty and compassion true to the biblical witness.
Pastor Mark Skinner will lead the large group discussions and there will be opportunities for small group discussions as well. St. Joseph’s Church
CROSBY — Orders are now being taken for pasties available for pickup starting the first Wednesday in October and extending through all Wednesdays in October at St. Joseph’s Church in Crosby (619 Poplar Street).
Sale dates are Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. The annual pasty marathon is sponsored by St. Joseph’s CCW, Crosby. Those interested in placing orders for pasties may do so by calling Kay at (218) 545-2306. If necessary, leave a message.
The pasties sell for $5 each and are made following a recipe for the pastry-enfolded meat and vegetable treat that dates back to the days when iron miners on the Cuyuna Range and tin miners in England took them to work in the mines. Each pasty is large enough to serve as a full meal for one or two people.
Orders are filled to be picked up on the Wednesday they are baked.
A Call to Prayer
Come to the fountain at Gregory Park each Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. beginning Sunday as well as Sept. 23, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28 and Nov. 4. The group will gather to pray for God’s will to be done in God’s world, the United States of America, Minnesota and all the other states, central Minnesota and the Brainerd lakes area. Bring a friend, your Bible and a lawn chair.
Sept. 16 will be an eventful one at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Join us for worship at either 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m., partake in a delightful Mexican-themed brunch (sponsored by the FLC Mission Team) between services at 9:15 a.m. A freewill offering will be accepted with proceeds going in support of mission efforts in Oaxaca, Mexico. FLC 3-year-olds (starting Sunday school this year) and third graders will be presented with Bibles during the 10:30 a.m. service. Later the annual FLC Golf Outing at Eagles Landing will be held at 3 p.m.
Confirmation orientation for students and parents will be held at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Brainerd. The Wednesday evening fellowship suppers will also resume on Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. in Koinonia followed by the Wednesday worship service in the Sanctuary at 6 p.m.
Making Sense of the Christian Faith — An eight-week adult study will be held at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room. (Please note that subsequent sessions will begin at 7 p.m.). As in the past, another session will be offered the following morning starting Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. in the Upper Room. The study runs from Sept. 18-19 through Nov. 6-7. The study will include DVD presentations by the author, Dr. David Lose, Marbury Anderson Professor of Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary in St. Paul.
Grace United fall worship schedule
“Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Are you ready to be on the mend?”
In their fall worship series, “On the Mend: Healing what Ails Us,” members of Grace United Methodist Church will uncover the wounds that hold us back from the fullness of life. The lectionary readings for this fall offer many stories of Jesus healing and speaking about what brings wholeness to our lives. Some of the weekly elements include “Healing Fear,” “Healing Trust,” and “Healing Power.” Pastor Dianne Ciesluk and the entire congregation invite you to join us as we move out of old ways of being into new possibilities.
Worship begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings with nursery available. Children leave worship for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. Fellowship time follows the worship service at 10 a.m. Join us 1.7 miles south of the lights in Pequot Lakes.
Minnesota Teen Challenge at Bethel Lutheran
Minnesota Teen Challenge will be at Bethel Lutheran Church of South Long Lake at 9 a.m. Sunday. The choir’s contemporary gospel and praise songs will be accompanied by inspiring client stories of addiction recovery. Additionally, representatives from the program will be available following the service to answer questions about the programs of Minnesota Teen Challenge.
The event is open to the public.
Bethel Lutheran is located at the intersection of Five Mile Road and Thompson Road.
BUCKMAN — St. Michael’s Church of Buckman will have its annual bazaar Sunday. The Polka Mass will start at 10 a.m., followed by a chicken and ham dinner served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Other events will include games for all ages, bingo, silent auction, quilt wheel, fancy work, country store, farmers market, cake wheel, pull tabs, gun raffle. Grand raffle drawing will be 4:30 p.m.
Park United Methodist Church is sponsoring a barbecue bash for younger adults and younger families Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. at their New Light Campus in Baxter. It will be an evening of grilled foods, salads and beverages (provided), plus games and felllowship. Bring your own lawn chairs.
