Eckankar service planned

There will be a spiritual discussion on karma and reincarnation from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brainerd Library.

Book study at Park UMC

The Tuesday night book group at Park United Methodist meets the second Tuesday of each month at the church at 6 p.m. The current book is “A Faith of Her Own,” by J. Ellsworth Kalas, which is a book about 12 Old Testament women of the Bible. Three will be discussed each month. The three for Oct. 9 are Eve, Cain’s wife and Sarah.

The evening begins with appetizers and those attending are asked to bring one to share.

Brainerd Christian Women’s Connection

The Brainerd Christian Women’s Connection invites women of all ages to a fall business fair/luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd Hotel.

Music will be provided by Bev Abear.

Rising above tough family circumstances, speaker Bonnie Lutz Good found, through unconditional love, she could become a winner in “The Strongest Power on Earth.”

Annual bazaar

and bake sale

The Cascade United Methodist Church annual bazaar and bake sale will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults: $5; kids, $3. There will be handcrafted items, baked goods, canned items and Grandma’s Attic. The church is on Highways 6 and 210 between Crosby and Deerwood.

Shepherd’s Lambs

FLC to honor Carlsons

On Sunday at First Lutheran Church, there will be a special coffee fellowship from 9:15-10:15 a.m. in Koinonia to honor longtime members Pastor Earl and Gladys Carlson. The Carlsons will be moving to Wisconsin later in the month to be near family.

Annual fall bazaar

St. Francis Catholic Church of Brainerd will hold its annual fall bazaar and lunch from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at St. Francis Church, Ninth and Juniper. Lunch will be $5 for adults and $3 for children served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include crafts, baked and pantry goods, silent auction, Granny’s Attic, raffles and door prizes every half hour.

Pastor appreciation

Riverside Union Church, located at 3435 County Road 45, will celebrate 30 years of service with Pastor Harvey Peterson with a pig roast and potluck fellowship dinner following the 10 a.m. Oct. 14 services. It is also Jubliee Sunday with ministry contributions from the congregation.

meatball supper

PINE RIVER — A lutefisk and meatball supper will be 3:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at First Lutheran Church, 309 Second St. North, Pine River. Tickets sold at the door. Adults: $14; children 6-12, $5; and children under 6, free. There will also be lefse for sale.

Inspirational Gospel Quartet at Shepherd

of the Lake

GARRISON — The Inspirational Gospel Quartet from Aitkin will join Shepherd of the Lake for worship at 10 a.m. Sunday. They will be singing throughout our worship service. Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church is located one mile north of the “Y” in Garrison.

Trinity to host

fellowship breakfast

Trinity Lutheran Church of Brainerd will host an egg bake breakfast on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall. The breakfast is being served by the Vision of Trinity with monies raised from a freewill offering going to support activities of the congregation.

Regular church service will be held at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. with Pastor Hans Anderson preaching.

Wednesday evening services are held each Wednesday at 6 p.m. The services are 30 minutes with Holy Communion served. A meal is served beginning at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Pasty orders being taken

CROSBY — Orders are now being taken for pasties available for pickup now and extending through all Wednesdays in October at St. Joseph’s Church in Crosby, 619 Poplar St.

The remaining sale dates are Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31. The annual pasty marathon is sponsored by St. Joseph’s CCW, Crosby. Those interested in placing orders for pasties may do so by calling Kay at 218-545-2306. If necessary, leave a message.

The pasties sell for $5 each and are made following a recipe for the pastry-enfolded meat and vegetable treat that dates back to the days when iron miners on the Cuyuna Range and tin miners in England took them to work in the mines. Each pasty is large enough to serve as a full meal for one or two people.

Orders are filled to be picked up on the Wednesday they are baked.
