■ Taize prayer

LITTLE FALLS — The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls invite the public to join them for Taize Prayer from 6-7 p.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Chapel at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls. Taize Prayer is a reflective, meditative prayer with repetitively sung chants. Gather in a sacred space for an hour with the beauty of lighted candles and the San Damiano Cross. Encounter the mystery of God through the beauty of simplicity. Allow yourself to be open and receptive and let the prayers permeate your mind. Hear scripture readings, prayer petitions and songs initiated by a song leader. Relax and join in prayer and song as you feel comfortable. In the sacred space of contemplative silence God often touches us deeply, and healing and transformation happen. Taize Prayer is open to the public the first Thursday of the month through June and will resume in September. The prayer of Jesus that all may be one is your special invitation to come. People of all faith traditions are welcome! For more information, call 320-632-0668 or email

■ Rediscovering the Gospel of John retreat

LITTLE FALLS — The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls invite the public to attend the retreat, “Rediscovering the Gospel of John” at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 to noon Jan. 20 at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls. The Gospel of St. John was one of the favorite Gospels of St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Clare of Assisi caught the flame of this Gospel as well. This Gospel is rich in tradition and is often referred to as “The Book of Signs.” Retreat Director, Father Charlie Smiech, will explore the Scriptures that touched the hearts of Francis and Clare to seek a deeper understanding of these sacred writings and their meaning for us today. Father Smiech will help participants examine the major themes in the Gospel of John and how they apply to our spiritual lives and those to whom we minister. Father Smiech, a Franciscan Friar from Cincinnati, Ohio, has preached and taught throughout the United States and in various countries.
