Wow! It’s only two weeks to Christmas and, as usual, I still have not begun my annual shopping spree. Oh, well, I still have time. I am always glad when the holidays are over and life returns somewhat to normal, whatever that is?

But here we are. My thoughts today go beyond the upcoming celebration of when God became flesh and dwelt among us, to the day after Christmas when it seems love has been put on the back burner once again. I put some of those thoughts on paper and would like to share them with you:

■ Love, the Christmas way

“Do you ever wonder when you gaze upon your Christmas tree,

Just how our celebration of this season came to be?

Do you wish that you could turn the clock to “way back when,”

And share the moment when God’s Son came to dwell with man?

The star that shines across the room from yonder window pane,

Reminds me of a star that shown in honor of his name.

It heralded the shepherds, their flocks by night they kept.

And hovered o’er the Christ child in the stable where He slept.

The angel on the treetop watching out with deepest care,

Tells us all a story of when music filled the air.

They sang a wondrous song of joy on that first Christmas morn,

To tell the world that Jesus came, the Savior had been born!

The string of lights that twine around the branches of the tree,

Are symbols of the love of God encircling you and me.

Christ came to earth that holy night to live and die for man

That we might have eternal life, it was the Father’s plan.

Three brave kings came to his side, to worship at His crib,

Gold and frankincense and myrrh they brought to honor Him.

Today in memory of those gifts, we’ve token of our care,

For piled high beneath the tree as presents that we share.

The tree, itself, speaks of a place where God’s own Son would die,

It’s green boughs reaching upward, in sorrow to the sky.

I wonder, if we could really see what happened on that day,

If we would live our whole lives through,

With love the Christmas way!”

I trust you will experience his awesome love and amazing grace in the coming days and the new year.
