Brainerd park board members said they need more information as to liability and cost before approving the installation of a skating rink in the vacant space caused by the Laurel Street fire. Downtown Business Council president Bob Brekken proposed the rink to increase business downtown.

The Northwest Paper Co. is spending more than $6 million on the expansion project now under way at the plant here. Mace Harris, company VP, says the project will provide a second paper machine and everything should be completed by the middle of 1959.

Three Brainerd boys, two of them 14, the other 15, were put on probation in juvenile court by Judge Kinder after being caught shooting out glass insulators with a .22 rifle. The insulators were on NP Railroad telegraph lines near the city. As a first offense they got probation.

In honor of the splendid work the YMCA is doing for our boys at the war front in France, an organization has been formed in Brainerd to raise $8,000 as part of the $25 million national campaign. To help our boys, the YMCA is right near the trenches and among the shell fire.
