Benefit dinner for Loren Compton planned

There will be a benefit for Loren Compton from 2-6 p.m. May 22 at the Old Waterfall, Hwy. 371 N. There will be a silent auction, food and prizes. Cost for the chicken dinner is $10 in advance or $12 the day of the event. The dinner will be served from 2:30-4 p.m.

Compton was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is receiving chemotherapy and pain management on a regular schedule. After a 25-year career as a carpenter he has not been able to work for the past six months.

For those interested, donations are being accepted at Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union, 200 South Sixth St., Brainerd, payable to Loren Compton Benefit.

Benefit dinner for Sgt. Erin Schaefer

There will be a chili and cornbread benefit dinner for wounded soldier Sgt. Erin M. Schaefer at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Park United Methodist Church, 315 N. Sixth St., Brainerd. Freewill offering and pop can donations will be accepted.

Brainerd American Legion events

Post membership meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday with the election of officers from 10 a.m. until the 7 p.m. meeting.

The nurses scholarship walleye dinner by the 40 et 8 will be 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Legion, 708 Front Street, Brainerd. Cost is $12. The selected student nurse will receive the $500 scholarship after the dinner.

Rollin’ Rangers

The monthly membership meeting for DAV Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22  will be 7 p.m. Thursday held at the Brainerd VFW club. Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Lakes Area Caged Bird Club

The Lakes Area Caged Bird Club meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Lawn Town Hall located on Hwy. 18, one mile east of the intersection of Highways 18 and 25. We will be discussing pet birds.

Fiesta de Mayo planned

Fiesta de Mayo will be 6 p.m. May 21 at St. Francis School, 817 Juniper St., Brainerd. All proceeds benefit St. Francis School. The celebration includes a Mexican dinner and dessert catered by Prairie Bay, DJ music, dancing lessons, six diamond giveaways, cash bar and auctions. Tickets are $32 per person in advance and can be purchased at the school, parish office or call 829-2344.

Boot Camp for New Dads offered

The Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition in partnership with Essentia Health will be offering Boot Camp for New Dads from 9 a.m. to noon May 21 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Boot Camp for New Dads is a nationally licensed program, facilitated by men, which is designed to give expectant fathers a place to learn from experienced fathers. Fish fry planned

PINE RIVER — The Dam Park Revitalization Task Force will have a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. May 21 at the Pine River Legion. Help raise funds for the playground, swimming area and more.

There will be raffle tickets available in advance and at the event.

Cost for the fish fry is adults 2/$25 in advance or $15 at the door; kids 10 and under, $7 in advance or $8 at the door.

Tickets are sold at Pine River Info Center/Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.
