Brainerd Legion upcoming events

The “world famous” rib dinner by Fred and Bob will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Brainerd Legion. Cost is $13 ($12 with a dinner presale ticket purchased by Wednesday).

Baxter Lions Club

BAXTER — The Baxter Lions Club will meet on Monday at Camp Vanasek. The board meeting is at 6 p.m. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and new President Dick Stebbins will call the regular meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Brainerd Elks Lodge Polish sausage feed

Brainerd Elks Lodge will have a Polish sausage feed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Elks Lodge, 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd. Cost: $8.

NARVRE to meet

NARVRE Unit 127 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Public Library. All retired and present railway workers and spouses are welcome to attend. Lunch will be served after the meeting.

Eighth annual pig roast and bean bag tournament at Backus Legion

BACKUS — Larry Kostka’s eighth annual pig roast and bean bag tournament will be held at the Backus American Legion July 16. The all-you-can-eat pig roast will run from 4:30 p.m. until gone and include roast pork on a bun, fresh sweet corn and potato salad for $7 a plate. The bean bag tournament starts at 2 p.m. with registration at 1:30 p.m. or anytime before. The double elimination tourney entry fee is $10 for two-person teams with prizes for first, second and third place with prize amounts based on the number of entries. The Legion is located at Highways 371 and 87 West.

Frankie Lamb Band returns to Backus Legion July 17

Classic country, pop, old time and swing music returns to the Backus American Legion July 17. The Frankie Lamb Band will be back for the monthly senior dance, playing from 2-6 p.m. Following the dance, there will be a dinner at 6 p.m. with proceeds going toward prize premiums for participants in the 4-H program at the Cass County Fair.

Brainerd Eagles Club

The Brainerd Eagles Club will serve breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at 124 Front Street, Brainerd, featuring the Eagles special for $6.

Upcoming events for the VFW

The monthly meetings for the VFW Post No. 1647 and Auxiliary will be held at the Home Post at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Friday night dinner will be a fish fry serving from 5:30 p.m. until gone at the VFW. Cost: $8.

WHS class of 1952

The Washington High School class of 1952 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bonanza. Classmates, spouses and friends come and join in.

Retired Firepersons

Retired Firepersons will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Wings Restaurant for breakfast. All spouses and friends are welcome.

‘Waiting for Superman’ movie to be shown at Arb

“Waiting for Superman” will be shown at 7 p.m. July 27 at the Northland Arboretum. Documentarian Davis Guggenheim (“An Inconvenient Truth”) weaves together the stories of students, families, educators and reformers to shed light on the failing public school system and its consequences on the future of the United States. In this Sundance Audience Award winner for Best Documentary, Guggenheim deftly examines the options to improve public education and provide America’s teachers and students with the help they need. Discussion for singles

WHS class of 1947

The Washington High School class of 1947 will meet at 1 p.m. July 18 at The Chap for its annual lunch get-together. No reservations needed.

Senior dances

Senior dances will be 1-4 p.m. Tuesday in Motley with music by Country Pride; from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Waukenabo with music by Jerry B.; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday at Deerwood with music by John and Virginia.

NARFE to meet

The Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Tuesday at Bricks in Motley. Social time starts at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. There will be a presentation by Linda Kmitch, MN NARFE.

WHS class of 1955

The Washington High School class of 1955, spouses and friends will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Monday at the Brainerd Lakes Cafe.

Crow Wing County Fair Association annual potluck

The Crow Wing County Fair Association annual potluck picnic will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds with the executive board meeting following the picnic. Brats, hot dogs and beverages will be provided. Members may bring a dish or dessert.

Evergreen Cemetery Association annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Evergreen Cemetery Association will be 3 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Public Library. The meeting will be to elect board members and conduct such other business as may come before it.
