Paige and Elizabeth (Rapovich) Fadling benefit planned

FORT RIPLEY — There will be a benefit for Paige and Elizabeth (Rapovich) Fadling from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Fort Ripley Community Center, 930 Oak Drive North, Fort Ripley, behind the Fort Steakhouse on Highway 371.

Elizabeth and her four-year-old daughter, Paige, are fighting Lyme disease. Elizabeth has had it for 27 years and Paige was born with it. They are facing mounting costs due to doctor visits, prescription medications and treatments not covered by medical insurance.

There will be a bounce house, face painting, food, silent auction and raffles.

Freewill donations accepted although a suggested $5 per person would be appreciated.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events

The Brainerd Legion Auxiliary membership meeting will be 7 p.m. Tuesday; and the class of 1956 will meet Friday in the Zelinske Hall.

Nisswa Women’s Club to meet

NISSWA — The Nisswa Women’s Club will hold its monthly membership meeting at noon Sept. 15 with a social time from 11:30 a.m. to noon, at Bar Harbor supper club, Lake Shore. The program topic will be “Helping the People of Africa” presented by Joey Halvorson, Sue Hadland, and Sharon Kramer.

Hostesses for the meeting are Nancy Baxter, Myrlin Wagner, Lorrie Anderson, Pat Maccabee and Mona Austin. The inspirational will be given by Sharon Halliwill.

Minnesota Lyme Association of the Brainerd Lakes Area

PEQUOT LAKES — Minnesota Lyme Association of the Brainerd Lakes Area will meet 6 p.m. Thursday at Trailside Center, Baptist Church, Pequot Lakes.

Dr. Elizabeth Maloney will be the speaker. She will focus on Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterial cause of Lyme disease. Dr. Maloney will describe what makes this bacterium unique and allows it to cause a persistent infection in some patients. She will have photos, video clips and analogies. There is no cost to attend this lecture. For more information contact Judy at 543-4945.

Brainerd Garden Club

Brainerd Garden Club will meet at noon Friday at the Brainerd Lakes Cafe for its annual luncheon meeting. There will be an election of officers and also a report on the flower show at the county fair.

Backus American Legion Auxiliary monthly breakfast

BACKUS — The Backus American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 11. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Proceeds go toward active duty troop, veterans, community and auxiliary programs. The Legion is located at Highways 371 and 87 W.

Brainerd Elks Lodge breakfast

Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615 will serve breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd. Order from the menu. All proceeds go to support Elks programs.

Senior center rummage sale

The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, 803 Kingwood Street, Brainerd, will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 10.

Sale will include items from small appliances to puzzles and books and everything in between. There will be a gold room with antiques and collectibles. No TVs, computers, clothing or exercise equipment. Proceeds benefit the Senior Center.

Potlatch Retirees

Potlatch Retirees will meet for cards and lunch at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Lakes Area Senior Activity Center.

Lakes Area Senior Morning Club

The Lakes Area Senior Morning Club meets each Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A speaker program is scheduled each week on various subjects of interest to the community. The club also participates in the “Books in a Bag” program sponsored by the Brainerd Public Library. All members of the Senior Center, men and women, are invited to become part of the group. Coffee and Senior Center prepared donuts are provided.

The programs for September are as follows: Wednesday, John Forrest, President, Brainerd Savings and Loan; Sept. 14, John Bowen,  Emergency Management Director, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Dept.; Sept. 21, A DNR DVD on Walleye Production; and Sept. 28, Mike Bestul, Deputy Chief, Brainerd Police Dept.

Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)

Captain Robert Orr Chapter DAR meets 10 a.m. second Saturday, February through November, at Sawmill Inn, Brainerd. Program and lunch follows meeting. Call Faye at 963-3955 or DeAnn at 546-6086.

Friday night VFW dinner

The Friday night VFW dinner will be all-you-can-eat fish from 5:30 p.m. until gone Friday. Cost: $8.

Bake and vegetable sale planned

The Lake Hubert Community Grange will have a bake and vegetable sale at 5 p.m. Sept. 11. A potluck supper will follow. Directions: 371 North of Brainerd 10 miles to Sportland Corner, County Road 13, east three miles to Sunset Valley Road, 1/4 mile north on left side (old school house).

Mission Possible Senior Club

The Mission Possible Senior Club will meet at noon Wednesday at the Mission Town Hall. A potluck will be followed by social hour.

Gathering of Brainerd Regional Human Services Center

The annual gathering of previous and current employees of Brainerd Regional Human Services Center will be 5 p.m. Thursday at TJ’s (formerly The Old Log Cabin), 320 South Seventh Street, Brainerd.

Senior dance

A senior dance will be 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Eagles with music by Jerry B.

Widowed Friends

The Widowed Friends will not meet on Monday because of the Labor Day holiday but will meet at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 at Bonanza. For more information, call 828-1920 or 829-2682.
