Benefit for Jean Meier

There will be a benefit for Jean Meier from 2-4 p.m. June 24 at The Old Waterfall, Highway 371 North, Brainerd. It will be an old fashioned chicken dinner with the Wild Horses Band, a silent auction, games and prizes.

Cost for advanced dinner tickets is $10 with $12 tickets at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased at The Old Waterfall and North Country Floral or call Kelly at (218) 866-0394 or Pam at (218) 839-3194.

Meier is a 3 1/2 year breast cancer survivor however since then she has been challenged with a multitude of health issues including other forms of cancer. She has had several surgeries, completed treatments and battled infections. Due to these health issues, she has been unable to work often and is in financial stress.

Meier is a longtime resident of Brainerd and was formerly employed at North Central Speedway and JC Penney. She is currently employed at Walmart with 21 years of service.

Disabled American Veterans

The monthly meeting for DAV and DAV Auxiliary Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd VFW club. All members are invited to attend. Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Brainerd Legion

The Brainerd Legion Post membership meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday. A rib dinner by Bob and Fred will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Legion. Cost: $13.

Encore Arts Association

Encore Arts Association will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, 803 Kingwood, Brainerd. After a brief business meeting, Linda Axvig will show how to create a beautiful mosaic cross. Packets of materials will be available for purchase. Members are encouraged to bring a piece of art for “show and tell,” finished or in-progress. Refreshments by Linda will be available. Call Sandy at 829-8691 for additional information.


Chapter CJ of PEO will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Hostesses are Helen Sands and Joyce Porter. The program will be the convention report.

Night under the Stars 2012 planned

Night under the Stars 2012 fundraising event will be July 21 at Camp Knutson, 1169 Whitefish Ave., Crosslake. This year’s theme is Making a Difference.

The wine bar and silent auction will be from 5-6:30 p.m. The welcome and dinner will be 6:45-8 p.m. with the live auction and program following dinner. CWC Historical Society Board of Directors meets

The Crow Wing County Historical Society Board of Directors meet the third Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the museum. Deerwood Lakes Lions bake sale and lunch

DEERWOOD — The Deerwood Lakes Lions is having a bake sale and lunch at the Bay Lake Lions Auction beginning at 9 a.m. June 23 on Highway 6, just north of Ruttger’s Golf course. Look for the signs.

C-I class of 1958

C-I class of 1958 will have a mini-reunion lunch at noon Wednesday at Jack’s House in Brainerd.

VFW Friday night dinner

The VFW Friday night dinner will be steak or shrimp on the barbie from 5:30 p.m. until gone June 23 at the VFW. Cost: $8.

Brainerd History Group

Brainerd Area Retired Educators

The Brainerd Area Retired Educators will meet for a noon luncheon Monday at the Cascade Methodist Church in Deerwood. The speaker will be Karen Ford, Brainerd Lakes Area Komen of the Cure. She will talk about the upcoming Race for the Cure June 30 at Forestview School and programs that the local Komen affiliate sponsors.
