Brainerd American Legion events

Commander Chris will serve an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Brainerd Legion. Cost: $7, adults; $4 for kids.

The Past Commanders will have its quarterly dinner meeting Wednesday with social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Brainerd Garden Club

Brainerd Garden Club will meet Friday at 10 a.m. at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds to clean up the horticultural building in preparation for the county fair. Members are reminded to bring cleaning supplies and bag lunch.

Senior dance

A senior dance will be 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at Motley with music by Michael James. Baxter Lions Club

The Baxter Lions Club will meet on Monday at Camp Vanasek. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting will be called to order by new president Gary Kub at 7 p.m.

WHS class of 1958

The Washington class of 1958 will meet for coffee at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the NW Pizza/Boardwalk Bread and Bagel.

Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition

The Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition in partnership with Essentia Health will be offering Boot Camp for New Dads from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Boot Camp for New Dads is a nationally licensed program, facilitated by men, which is designed to give expectant fathers a place to learn from experienced fathers. Backus Lions Fly-In breakfast planned

BACKUS — The 17th annual Backus Fly-In pancake breakfast will be 7:30 a.m. to noon July 29 at the Backus Airport just west of Highway 371.

Schedule permitting, the North Memorial Medivac helicopter will land at 11 a.m. A demonstration will be given with the “Jaws of Life” rescue apparatus on an old car. The Lions Club will also provide free diabetes screenings.

The pancake breakfast, a benefit for the Backus Fire Department and First Responders, will cost $6 at the door ($5 in advance) and $3 for children under 12. Fly-in pilots eat free. Sausage, juice, coffee and milk will also be available.

Advance tickets are available from Backus Lions members at the Polish Stand on Godfrey’s on Saturdays or Backus Fire Department members and First Responders.

Brainerd Area Art Club

The Brainerd Area Art Club will meet at Evelyn Matthies’ art studio at Franklin Art Center on Thursday. Meeting time will be back to 3 p.m. Lily Atwel will be presenting a program. There will be coffee and a treat. Because of road construction, park in the parking lot.
