The monthly meeting for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Auxiliary (DAVA) Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be held at the Brainerd VFW club on Thursday. The membership meeting will begin at 7 p.m. All members are invited to attend. Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Paul Bunyan Toastmaster installs five new officers
New President Brian Hinton was installed into his one-year term at a recent meeting of the Paul Bunyan Toastmasters in Brainerd. Also installed were Shelia Avenson, VP – Education; Pauline Tischman, VP – Public Relations; Bonnie Henningson, Secretary; Mary Reedy, Treasurer. Other new officers not in attendance were Crystal Anderson, VP – Membership; Christopher Knopik, Sergeant-at-Arms. Nisswa Women’s Club August meeting analyzes antique treasures
NISSWA — The Nisswa Women’s Club will hold its monthly membership meeting at noon Thursday with a social time from 11:30 a.m. to noon at The Lodge, Baxter. The program, “Treasures in Your Attic,” will be presented by Steve Foy and Lori Carlson.
Hostesses for the meeting are Betty Hyde, Myrlin Wagner, Nancy Baxter, Barb Elmquist and Karen Baloun.
Donations will be collected at the meeting for the Lakes Area Food Shelf. Membership dues for 2013 will also be received at the August meeting.
The Nisswa Women’s Club meeting scheduled for Sept. 20 at Grand View Lodge, Nisswa, will include an annual meeting, the election of officers and 2013 membership dues.
The Nisswa Women’s Club, which serves the Brainerd lakes area with charitable donations, meets the third Thursday of each month.
Brainerd Eagles Club breakfast
The Brainerd Eagles Club breakfast will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 12 at 124 Front Street, Brainerd, featuring the Eagles Special for $6.
Lakes Area Caged Bird Club
We’ll be discussing our birds: cockatoos, macaws, Amazons, African grays, finches, etc. at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Lawn Town Hall located on Hwy. 18, one mile east of the intersection of Highways 18 and 25. There are no dues. For more information, call Char at 764-2625.

Class of 1952 will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bonanza. All class members, spouses and friends are welcome to attend.
Church picnic at Shepherd of the Lake in Garrison
GARRISON — The Shepherd of the Lake Church in Garrison will have its church picnic Sunday. There will be an outdoor church service at 10 a.m. followed by a potluck luncheon. There will be games and prizes.
NAARFE to meet
Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Tuesday at the Pine Ridge Golf Course in Motley. Social time starts at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. Presentation by Keith Wright, founder of the Ronald McDonald House.
Ruby’s Pantry is a mission outreach where participants give a cash donation of $15 to cover expenses of the program and in return receive corporate surplus food. Participants need to bring containers to carry their food home. No income guidelines. Ruby’s Pantry will be at Habitat for Humanity on Wright Street from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Doors open at 9 a.m.
Senior dances will be 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at Motley with music by Country Diamonds (potluck); from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at Brainerd Eagles with music by Carl and Don; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday in Deerwood with music by Henry’s Band (potluck).
Ride for the Red
The ninth annual Ride for the Red will be Aug. 25. Ride for the Red is a 135-mile scenic motorcycle tour through beautiful northern Minnesota.
This event was created by the Brainerd/Baxter and Bemidji Home Depots and Northern Lights Casino to help the North Star Chapter to fulfill the mission of your local Red Cross.
Groups of riders will start from the Bemidji, Brainerd, Duluth, and Grand Rapids Home Depot stores and meet at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker. Riders, followed by one of the American Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles, will go through a scenic route including Itasca State Park and then return to the casino for prizes, dinner and music.
Riverwood Auxiliary second annual Second Time Around Style Show and Luncheon
AITKIN — The Riverwood Auxiliary Second Time Around Style Show and Luncheon will be 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at Westside Church.
Cost: $15, adults; children under 12, $8.
Tickets will be available at the hospital gift shop or from Auxiliary members. No tickets will be sold at the door.

The Baxter Lions Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Camp Vanasek. There will be a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting is at 7 p.m.
