Brainerd Service League

The Brainerd Service League will meet Tuesday at Goodie Schmitz’s cabin. Social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch and meeting to follow. Members are reminded to RSVP.

Brainerd Garden Club

The Brainerd Garden Club will meet noon Friday at the Northland Arboretum for its annual luncheon meeting. Lunch will be provided for $5 per person. There will also be an election of officers for the upcoming year.

50s party at CCC

NISSWA — Christ Community Church, 24646 Hazelwood Drive, Nisswa, will have its annual 50’s party from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 15. The event is open to the public. There will be a hula hoop contest and bubble gum blowing contest along with hamburgers, hot dogs and root beer floats served.

Class of 1946

Washington High School Class of 1946 will meet for their monthly lunch 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bar Harbor Supper Club. Come, bring a friend. Order from the menu. Call Dick at 218-838-0738 for more information.

Eagles Club to meet

The Brainerd Eagles Club Breakfast will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Eagles at 124 Front Street in Brainerd. The Eagles Special for $6 will be featured.

Alzheimer’s fundraiser

Friends and Neighbors Garage Sale Fundraiser will be held from 1-4 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Society-Woodland, 200 Buffalo Hills Lane. All proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.

No. 738 to meet

BAXTER — The Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bonanza Steak House in Baxter. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. There will be a presentation by Rany Brenny, a pharmacist.

VFW events

The VFW will be hosting Dollar Taco Night every Tuesday starting at 5 p.m. Post and Auxiliary meetings at the Home Post 1647 will start at 7 p.m.

Friday Auxiliary Fish Fry starts at 5:30 p.m., until gone. Cost is $8. Reservations are appreciated by calling the VFW at 829-6393. Sunday breakfast with a full menu starts at 8 p.m. until noon. Cost is $6.

GriefShare support group begins series

BAXTER — GriefShare Support group will begin a new series at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church, 6284 Fairview Rd., Baxter. GriefShare is a series of 14 sessions. Cost is $15; scholarships are available. The DVD seminar features well-known authors and counselors who speak to those who are grieving the death of a loved one. A workbook is provided for further study. Sharing is on a voluntary basis. Grief is different for each individual and hits you when you least expect it. Xi Chapter, Alpha

Delta Kappa to meet

Xi Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa will meet at 4:15 p.m. Monday at Sawmill Inn in Brainerd. The meeting will be to renew friendships with current and retired women educators and welcome potential members.

A program will be presented on Minnesota plants and gardens and will show appreciation for new teachers in the district through the chapter’s altruism project.

Better Breathers Club

The Better Breathers Club will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Joseph Room in the lower level at Essential Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center.

The topic is “Living after Lung Transplant,” a personal story by Jodi Roth, Alpha-1 patient advocate.

American Diabetes Association to meet

The American Diabetes Association Brainerd Lakes Area Chapter will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bonanza in Baxter. A presentation on “Diabetes & Depression: A Challenging Combination” will be given by Danette Holznagel, diabetes resource program coordinator at Essential Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center.

National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees

National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Unit 127, will meet 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Public Library. All retired and current Railway employees and spouses are welcome. Lunch to follow.

Summer Picnic

Crow Wing County Chapter 22 members and guests will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Buffalo Hills-Lions Park Pavilion. Beverages and meat will be provided by DAV. Bring a dish to share.

Ruby’s Pantry

Ruby’s Pantry is a mission outreach where participants give a cash donation of $15 to cover expenses of the program and in return receive corporate surplus food. The variety and amount varies each month; however, the value of what is received generally averages $50. Participants need to bring containers to carry their food home. No income guidelines. Ruby’s Pantry will be at Brainerd Armory on Wright Street the second Tuesday of each month. The next distribution from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday with doors opening at 10 a.m.

Alpha Chapter

No. 23 OES

Alpha Chapter No. 23 OES will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Masonic Hall in Brainerd. They will be honoring Rob Morris,founder of the order.
