Sons of Norway

Sons of Norway will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brainerd, in the fellowship hall. Brunch will be served. Members are encouraged to bring samples of their hobbies and speak a little about them.

■ Ruby’s Pantry

Ruby’s Pantry is a mission outreach where participants give a cash donation of $15 to cover expenses of the program and in return receive corporate surplus food. The variety and amount varies each month; however, the value of what is received generally averages over $50. Participants need to bring containers (leave in vehicle) to carry their food home. No income guidelines. Ruby’s Pantry will be at the Brainerd Armory on Wright Street the second Tuesday of each month. The next distribution is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. For minimum wait, come at noon. Note new open time.

■ Crow Wing County Fair Board meeting

Crow Wing County Fair Board meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Curling Club.

■ Disabled American Veterans (DAV)

The monthly meeting for the DAV Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd VFW club. Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Special notice: The Chapter 22 membership holiday party will be from 5-8 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Brainerd VFW.

■ Nisswa Women’s Club

to meet

NISSWA — The Nisswa Women’s Club will hold its first 2014 monthly meeting Thursday beginning with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon with the program to follow at Billy’s at Breezy Point, located at 30898 Rancette Drive, between Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point. Karen DeVries will present the program entitled “Women, the Civil War and Quilts.” Dolly Zitur will share the inspirational. Hostesses for the meeting will be Betty Alderman, Gisela Borgwarth, Betty Jean Carlson, Rosemary Kraus, Carole Steffenson and Bonnie Tangen.

Ray’s Promenaders will dance Friday to caller Myron Hollatz at the Baxter Elementary School cafeteria. Plus dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by mainstream at 8 p.m. Co-hosting the potluck will be Ann Dosh and Jim Amwig and bars and cookies are the treats for the evening.

NISSWA — The Nisswa Garden Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. Check in and social time will begin at noon. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by a business meeting. The program will be “My Secret Garden.” The speaker is Lyn Scharenbroich from Black Pine Resort. Coordinator is Jim Sherwood. For Children

The Brainerd Chapter of Healthy Brains For Children will meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Park UMC.

■ Chocolate Lovers’ Extravaganza

A chocolate lovers’ extravaganza will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at Westgate Mall in Baxter. “Wine, Beer and Bling” will be $15 per person. ■ Rocking country music fest benefit

The Pine River American Legion and Riverview RV Campground will present a benefit for the community at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at the American Legion in Pine River. A rocking country music fest will feature the Riverview Shotgun Trio with silent auctions, live auctions and drink specials. All proceeds will go to the local area Pine River Food Shelf.

■ Living Well with

Diabetes program

Good Samaritan Society Communities of Brainerd and Pine River is offering a Living Well with Diabetes Program starting Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Brainerd-Woodland Campus, 300 Buffalo Hills Lane. The six-week course meets once per week and is free and open to the public. Call Joy Nordby at 855-6639 to register or for more information.

■ Good Samaritan Society offers Alzheimer’s session

Good Samaritan Society Communities of Brainerd and Pine River is offering an upcoming Alzheimer’s education session. The information will be useful for caregivers, family members and friends of those with memory loss.

Innovation in Awareness, Collaboration and Funding for Patient-Centered Alzheimer’s Care will be from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Good Samaritan-Woodland Chapel, 300 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd. The sessions are free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged at 829-1429. A light meal will be provided. Companion care available upon request through Breath of Life Adult Day Service.

■ NARVRE date changes

NARVRE No. 127, Brainerd, has date changes for the next three months.

There will be no January meeting.

NARVRE will meet at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18 and 1:30 p.m. March 4 at the Brainerd Public Library meeting room.

■ Senior dances

Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at the Motley Ten-Hi with music by Michael James (potluck); from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Blue Room with music by Country Ramblers; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion with music by Gary’s Dance Band.

■ Class of 1952

Class of 1952 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bonanza.

■ VFW upcoming events

VFW Post No. 1647 and Auxiliary will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Home Post.

Friday dinner will be walleye serving from 5:30 p.m. until gone at the VFW. Cost: $10. Reservations are appreciated by calling the VFW at 829-6393.

Sunday breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 at the VFW. Cost: $6.

■ Baxter Lions Club

The Baxter Lions Club will meet Monday at Camp Vanasek. The board meeting is at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting will be called to order at 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome.

■ Brainerd Chapter Amber Lodge No. 186

The Brainerd Chapter Amber Lodge 186 of the Danish Sisterhood of America will meet at 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at Evelyn Matthies Studio in the Franklin Arts Center. You do not need to be of Danish decent to attend, just interested in Danish culture and customs.

Pinetree Patchworkers will meet at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Dan McElroy with State Farm Insurance will educate us about insuring our quilting investment. Bring your homeowner’s policy if you would like help understanding what it covers. There will be a meeting of the block exchange group at 6:15 p.m. before the PP meeting.

The Brainerd Eagles Club breakfast will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at 124 Front Street, Brainerd, featuring the Eagles special for $7.
