Favorite meals on the outdoor grill

"Let's have a barbecue" is the perfect answer for a casual family meal. Hardly a meal has been served at our house that hasn't been made on the grill. Even though meats are the main attraction, many vegetables also are delicious cooked on the outdoor grill. This week I would like to share with you some outdoor favorites that we have enjoyed.

Lemon Herb Pork Chops

6 pork chops

1/4 cup lemon juice

2 tablespoons cooking oil

1 tablespoon instant minced onion

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon powdered thyme

1/4 teaspoon oregano

1/4 teaspoon pepper or seasoned pepper

Before grilling, combine all ingredients except the pork chops to make marinade. Pour marinade over chops in shallow non-metallic container or plastic bag. Cover; marinate at least two hours at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator. Remove chops; reserve marinade for basting sauce. On the grill, place chops 6 to 8 inches from hot coals. Cook 30-40 minutes, brushing with marinade and turning occasionally until done.

Barb's Rosemary Shrimp

1 bag uncooked very large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons Old Bay Seafood seasoning

6 cloves garlic, minced

4 lemons, juiced

2 large packages of fresh rosemary

Thaw shrimp. Mix olive oil and Old Bay Seafood seasoning, lemon juice and garlic in a large bowl. Strip rosemary off of branches. To make skewers, put rosemary in marinade. Add thawed shrimp. Marinate shrimp for at least one hour, the longer the better. Put shrimp on skewers; grill over high heat leaving the lid of the grill open. Baste with remaining marinade until shrimp are pink. Be careful to not overcook.

Sweet Buttery Beans

3 cups (2-10 ounces packages) frozen green beans

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

Remove frozen vegetables from freezer package. Place in center of a square of heavy duty foil. Season with two pats butter, salt and pepper. Bring up sides of foil; fold down onto vegetables in tight double fold; fold ends up in tight double folds. Place package on grill over hot coals; grill 20-30 minutes, turning frequently. Drain Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Serve hot.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Some people eat from three basic food groups: canned, frozen or take-out.

GARY'S TIP: To remove grass stains from washable fabrics, make a paste from powdered detergent and water and rub directly on the stain. Allow to stand several hours, then wash in hot water and a detergent.
