Remote control and the soul
I lost the TV remote. Well, actually I didn't lose it but rather my 20-month-old son ran off with it. This is not the first time the TV remote has been lost and I am certain it will not be the last. It has been lost many times in the last nine months since my son began walking. Steele loves to play with remotes. They are one of his favorite toys. We bought him his own remotes that are made for kids with lights and sounds and songs but he doesn't think those are nearly as fun as the actual remotes we use. When he plays with the remotes they always seem to be lost.
Whenever the remote is lost I usually do one of two things. I cross my fingers and hope it will show up or I dig in my son's toy boxes. Surprisingly that usually works. Or at least it did until last week when the TV remote was lost. I am beginning to think it may never be found. I crossed my fingers and waited for it to show up, I searched his toy boxes, I even cleaned the entire house but the remote is nowhere to be found. I fear it may be lost forever.
Losing a TV remote is not a big deal. In this case I plan to simply purchase another. Many people approach their souls and eternity the same way I approach a lost remote. They either cross their fingers and hope they get in or they work and serve trying to earn their way to heaven.
Jesus said in Matthew 16:26: "What profit is it to a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul." The soul of a man is much more important than a TV remote.
If you're crossing your fingers and hoping that you are good enough to get to heaven you will never be found. If you are serving others and hoping that your works will be enough to get you into heaven you will never be found. There is no way for any person to find their own way to heaven. Jesus said in Luke 19:20 that He came "to seek and to save the lost."
Because God loves you so much He sent Jesus to die on the cross and take the punishment for your sin. All you must do is believe on Jesus and you will be found.
You are probably not searching for your TV remote, but I hope that you will stop and consider that Jesus is searching for you. Believe on Him today.
