20 years ago (1994)

A retired firefighter who was wounded twice in the Korean War was the first serviceman to be buried in the new Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery at Camp Ripley. The body of former Randall VFW Commander Leonard Lehmann was brought from Ft. Snelling and reburied last week.

Two Brainerd sisters, Kathy, 22, and Shelley Smith, 20, have set aside wedding plans for a couple of months to do something they've dreamed about - traveling to the west coast on horseback. The two girls say their boyfriends "don't like it much."

60 years ago (1954)

A South Dakota National Guard pilot was killed and his observer was injured when the plane he was flying crashed at Camp Ripley and burst into flames. The accident occurred during a mock strafing run when the plane hit a power line and then a truck.

100 years ago (1914)

The Shafer's meat market delivery team had a runaway this morning, starting near Purdy's barn, taking the sidewalk down Laurel Street and then by the street down South 6th. They collided with a small buggy near the post office, wrecking it. No horses were hurt.
