A farmer-owned cooperative has been formed to construct a 15 million gallon ethanol plant in Little Falls. creating about 40 jobs. The facility, which is expected to benefit farmers in a 50-mile radius, will cost $22.5 million to build.

30 years ago (1984)

(Photo) Glen Gustafson lines up a putt at the Camp Confidence Celebrity Golf Tournament while his partners study the line. The team includes Ed Northway, Mike Hayes and Mark Olberding. Olberding, a pro basketball player, will be next year's honorary chairman.

40 years ago (1974)

(Photo) Brainerd Bronco Leage president Ed Yunker accepts a $500 check from Tom Dunlap of Citizens State Bank. The money will be used to help local baseball programs for youngsters. In the Bronco All-Star game, the Americans beat the Nationals 18-12.

60 years ago (1954)

Northeast, behind the four-hit hurling of Bill Selisker and Bobby Thompson, scored a 10-1 win over Southeast to take the lead in the Brainerd City Baseball League. Second baseman Ronnie Chisholm was the big man with the bat, getting four hits and four RBIs.

80 years ago (1934)

Stan Larson and Larry Dail of Kansas City will fight it out today for championship of the 10,000 Lakes Golf Tournament at the Breezy Point course. Miss Lanpher, White Bear Lake, will oppose 16-year-old Patty Berg, last year's champion, for the women's title.

100 years ago (1914)

Barricaded in his boarding house at Loerch, and surrounded by an angry mob of Finnish railway workers, Fred Bechler put in a call for help to Brainerd. Police Chief Quinn took a posse armed with rifles and drove the six miles to Loerch, arresting four and dispersing the mob.
