Morris Communications of Augusta, Georgia, will be the new parent company of the Brainerd Dispatch. Morris has signed an agreement to purchase all stock of Stauffer Communications of Topeka, Kansas, which has owned the Dispatch since March 1, 1984.

30 years ago (1984)

Fluoridation, the subject of a 30-year losing battle in Brainerd, is back in the spotlight again. Irene Johnson, a longtime foe of forced fluoridation, has filed a class action lawsuit against State Health Commissioner Sister Mary Ashton.

Over 2,500 Brainerd residents visited the new Vista Dome railroad passenger car which was on display here Sunday. The glass-topped cars are part of Northern Pacific's North Coast Limited service from Chicago to Seattle.

80 years ago (1934)

Authorities here claimed that the Mississippi River had reached its lowest level in 54 years, due to the drought. The water is so shallow in many spots below the dam that one may walk across with no danger whatsoever. Great interest in the sight of an almost dry river bed.

100 years ago (1914)

Commencing this Monday, the NP Railroad shops will go on full time, and the added hours will make a big increase at the monthly paydays. The entire locomotive side goes on 9 hours, six days a week. The car building side is on 10 hours a day, six days a week.
