20 years ago (1994)

The Brainerd City Council denied reconsideration of a request by Coborn's, Inc., for an off-sale liquor zone amendment. Coborn's proposed to open a Cashwise liquor store in the former Sears store near the East Brainerd Mall. The council did, however, ask the planning commission to study zoning changes.

30 years ago (1984)

40 years ago (1974)

Minn. Natural Gas, defending champ in the Men's Twilight Golf League, made it three straight sweeps against league foes with a 12-0 win over Riverview Motel to total 126.5 points. Brainerd Dispatch is 2nd with 126, despite a 10.5-1.5 hammering of 1st National Bank.

60 years ago (1954)

A decision was reached by the city council on an issue that had been discussed for some time, that of keeping downtown alleys open. All such alleys will now be one-way, preventing blocked alleys and facilitating access for fire equipment.

80 years ago (1934)

The law of averages caught up with Brainerd's Muskies after they won 16 of 19 home games, including the first of two against Fargo-Moorhead to tie Crookston for first place in the Northern League. A second-game loss to F-M, and a Crookston win, puts the Muskies in third place.

100 years ago (1914)

County Attorney Swanson returned from Crosby where several of those arrested last week on "blind pigger" liquor charges (selling without a license) were re-arrested. The first arrests were under village ordinances. Now they have received charges under Minnesota state statutes.
