Two adults and two children escaped injury when their 21-foot boat exploded on west Gull Lake. Jeff Carlson heard a small explosion, then smoke from the engine compartment and they leaped overboard. They watched as a second explosion and fire destroyed the boat.

The lease for the Greyhound Bus Depot at 5th and Laurel Street expires tomorrow and the depot hasn't found a new home. Agent Tom Scheurer tried to get a temporary site in the garage behind Van's Cafe, but neighboring residents opposed it.

More than 100 members of the Minn. Historical Society made their annual tour of the state, with the highlight being the award of a certificate of merit to Jack and Peg Madden for planning and constructing Lumbertown USA at Pine Beach. Only 43 such awards were made in the U.S.A.
