Staples-Motley decision on administrator expected within weeks
A decision on Lynn Peterson’s status within the Staples-Motley School District is expected in the next couple of weeks, Superintendent Mark Schmitz said Thursday.
Peterson, Staples-Motley dean of students, activities director and longtime boys basketball coach, was placed on paid administrative leave on Feb. 8 pending the outcome of an investigation by the district into allegations made against Peterson.
The decision to place Peterson on leave was made by Schmitz after conferring with Staples-Motley High School Principal Ryan Luft. School officials have not disclosed the allegations made against Peterson, citing state data privacy laws.
On Thursday, Schmitz again declined to comment on the ongoing investigation but said a decision was expected by April 21.
“It’s certainly not going as quickly as all of us would wish, but we certainly hope to have it resolved in the next couple of weeks,” Schmitz said.
Peterson has been head coach at Staples-Motley since the 1979-80 season. He entered the 2010-11 season ranked fourth in victories in Minnesota State High School League boys basketball history. He has coached the Cardinals to 11 state tournaments, including two state runner-up finishes.
