32-year-old Crosslake woman killed trying to save nephew
CROSSLAKE — A 32-year-old Crosslake woman was killed Thursday after trying to stop a pickup that her 2-year-old nephew was in, Crosslake Police Chief Bob Hartman said.
Hartman said the 2-year-old was playing inside the pickup, when the truck began rolling backwards downhill. The woman, who was at the scene, jumped onto the running board and was reaching inside the truck, attempting to put it into park when the truck side-swiped a large tree. The woman, who was standing on the running board, got caught between the truck and the tree.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated by a witness, another passer-by and by the Crosslake first responders and North ambulance personnel. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The toddler was not injured.
The accident was reported at 7:55 p.m. on Tamarack Road. The name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Hartman said the possible cause of death to the woman was head trauma.
The Crosslake Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Crosslake Fire Department and the Breezy Point Police Department.
