County deputy hurt in 2-vehicle accident

Crow Wing County Sheriff Deputy Ian Wilson was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 7:37 p.m. Thursday on Highway 371.

Sheriff Todd Dahl said Wilson was taken to Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted said the other driver, James Campbell, 44, Duluth, was not injured. Exsted said Wilson was traveling south on 371 and Campbell was in the southbound turning lane waiting for the stoplight to turn green to make a left on College Road. Exsted said at the last minute Campbell made an improper move to the right and crashed into Wilson’s squad vehicle.

Dahl said he’d like to remind motorists that there will be a lot of people on the road this Memorial Day weekend and motorists should use extra caution on the roadway to stay safe.
