Cass Lake man stabbed during altercation
CASS LAKE — A 19-year-old Cass Lake man was stabbed in the back of his neck and head Saturday during an altercation at a Cass Lake residence, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department reported on Tuesday.
The victim, Charles Kingbird, was initially treated at the Cass Lake hospital and then airlifted to a Fargo hospital, where he was reported in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
The suspect, Ronnie Burnette, 22, is in the Cass County Jail pending formal criminal charges from the Cass County Attorney’s office. The incident remains under investigation, the sheriff’s department reported.
Railroad crossing repairs will close junction of CSAH 48-Highway 210
The intersection of County State Aid Highway 48 (Highland Scenic Drive) and Highway 210 will be closed from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday for repairs to the railroad crossing. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes.
Senior dances to be held
The Brainerd Eagles will host the next senior dance from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, with music by Dale and Don.
The next senior dance will be from 1-4 p.m. Friday in Deerwood with music by Andy and Stu.
Energy assistance applications accepted until May 31
Lutheran Social Service Energy Assistance is accepting applications for Energy Assistance through May 31.
The Energy Assistance Program ensures households with the lowest incomes and the highest costs receive the greatest benefit. Homeowners, and renters (except subsidized renters with heat and electric included), are eligible to apply. All fuel types qualify — LP, oil, natural gas, electric, and wood (self-cut or purchased). Services provided are:
• Financial aid to pay a portion of heating and/or electric costs.
• Crisis intervention for threat of or no heat situations.
• Home heating system repair or replacement if you are a homeowner and are approved for energy assistance.
• Upon request, referral to financial counseling, weatherization and other human service providers.
Income guidelines for thre months are:
Household size and gross income: one — $5,655; two — $7,395; three — $9,135; four — $10,875; five — $12,615; six — $14,355; seven — $14,681; eight — $15,007.
