Progress made on painting of airport Marine jet
Airport Manager Steve Sievek reported progress has been made on plans to refurbish the U.S. Marine F9F6 Cougar that’s mounted near the parking lot at the airport.
He said Deerwood Bank and Dondelinger Chevrolet-Cadillac have come forward to assist with the approximate $14,000 labor cost of the project. An additional approximate $8,000 will be spent on the paint alone since a high-grade aviation paint will be used.
A decision will have to be made regarding what color to paint the aircraft, Sievek said. He said his preference would be white because it would make bird waste products less visible.
“There’s a fair amount of white on it,” he said. “That particular white would be less visible if it (the plane) was white.”
The cost of the restoration of the U.S. Marine plane at the airport is expected to be covered by donations and volunteer work.
