Crosslake Day in the Park planned Saturday
CROSSLAKE — The Crosslake Park and Recreation Department along with the Park and Library Foundation of Crosslake announced Crosslake Day in the Park is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
This community celebration of parks, recreation and library services and programs will prove to be one of the highlights of the summer for Crosslake area residents and visitors, the Park and Recreation Department reported.
This year’s event will showcase arts and crafts vendors, three musical acts, free family activities, tours, prizes and programs offered by the Community Center, Parks Department and Library. Informational flyers are available at the Community Center and at participating businesses throughout the community. Arts and crafts vendor who would like to showcase handmade goods, should contact the Crosslake Community Center.
The day’s activities will include a variety of vendors displaying handmade arts and crafts, motorized tours of the wilderness trails, guided nature walks, a home run contest, free throw contest, kids Olympic games, Frisbee golf tournament, a tennis tournament, gardening classes and presentations on water gardens and a unique look at the beautiful country of Costa Rica.
The Saturday event will also feature a make-your-own pottery booth, craft demonstrations, face painting, Geocaching, a scavenger hunt, fire truck rides, medallion hunt and other family activities.
Area volunteers will have lunch available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Awards and prizes will be presented throughout the day. Volunteers are needed. Contact the Community Center if interested at (218) 692-4271.
All proceeds from the event will be invested into the community through the PAL Foundation which supplies financial support to Crosslake’s Parks and Library. Mark your calendars for Saturday. Participate in Crosslake’s Day in the Park. Events will be held rain or shine.
Mark Smeby, Nashville gospel recording artist, will have a free music event at 1:30 p.m.
The “Beauty and Wonder of Costa Rica” is planned at 2 p.m. The free garden tour of the park’s three gardens is at 2 p.m.
The disc golf tournament for advanced players has a cost of $10 is at 2 p.m. Participants will be placed in groups of four to compete in the shotgun style tournament. A novice division is planned at 10:30 a.m.
The free whiffle ball competition Home Runs in the Park is from 2-3 p.m. The free geocaching demonstration is at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the course on how to use GPS to find geocashes hidden in the park. GPS units will be available for participants with a pre-registration and deposit.
At 3 p.m., free musical entertainment is provided by Offside, a young classic rock band. At 3:30 p.m. the winner of the grand prize will be announced. The prize was donated by Crosslake Ace Hardware.
All-day events include the arts and crafts sales, the free fire truck rides, community clubs/activities, medallion hunt, cart tours of the park, face painting and popcorn, woodcarving demonstrations. The free make your own pottery event is from 10 a.m. to noon
The tennis tournament is 9 a.m. to noon at a cost of $15 to raise funds to build four new courts. At 11 a.m. multiple events start, including a park walk, Zumba Dance with Donna and children’s scavenger hunt.
