Two bodies found in burning vehicle
The bodies of two deceased men were found inside a vehicle that was in a ditch and on fire early Thursday morning at Grouse Road and 139th Avenue in Green Prairie Township in Little Falls, the Morrison County Sheriff’s office reported.
Little Falls Fire Chief Mike Nieman said when firefighters arrived at the scene the vehicle was fully engulfed. Nieman said firefighters noticed the bodies in the vehicle and quickly extinguished the fire, pushed the vehicle back up and pulled the bodies out.
“It was a bad deal,” said Nieman. “(As firefighters in the community) you know people and always wonder if you’re going to know them”
Nieman said there were 22 firefighters on scene for about 90 minutes. Nieman said it is difficult to determine the cause of a vehicle fire as it could be multiple things, such as an electrical problem or the fuel tank.
It was reported that the vehicle appeared to be traveling south on Grouse Road when it left the roadway striking a road approach and rolling, coming to a rest on its top.
The accident was reported at 12:43 a.m. Thursday.
Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said the report was called in by a motorist who was passing by.
The bodies of the men were transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and for positive identification. No positive identification had been made as of late Thursday afternoon, the sheriff’s department reported.
The Little Falls Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance assisted at the scene and the State Patrol will assist in the investigation.
