Demolition of state hospital buildings will begin after Oct. 10


The demolition of 10 buildings at the former campus of Brainerd State Hospital is expected begin sometime after Oct. 10. 

Ryan Church, assistant commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Administration, said Thursday construction fencing around buildings slated for destruction is tentatively scheduled for sometime after Tuesday. The tentative start date for window abatement and interior salvage work is Oct. 10. Demolition work will start as abatement work is completed in each building.


The project includes the demolition of Buildings 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 17, 19, 4, 37, east tunnels and related roadways, sidewalks and water lines. The bid for the project was awarded to Landwehr Construction of St. Cloud.
