Volunteers sought for Minnesota Military Museum

CAMP RIPLEY —The Minnesota Military Museum is seeking volunteers who have an interest in military history.

“We are currently taking applications for volunteers who want to be a part of the Minnesota Military Museum at Camp Ripley,” said Jeff Thielen, museum executive director, in a news release.

Opportunities for volunteers include greeter, tour guide, store clerk, library assistant, office assistant, artifact processing and restoration, weapons maintenance, exhibit construction, and volunteer coordinator.

Individuals who desire to do so may utilize the museum’s extensive collection of uniforms and equipment to become a part of an exhibit and bring realism to displays through conversations with visitors about a specific period in history.

“Volunteers can work as little or as much as they want,” Thielen said. “We would love to have someone volunteer one day a week, but we will accommodate the volunteer to meet their schedule.”

Interested individuals may download a copy of the volunteer application from the museum website at or they can contact the museum by calling (320) 616-6050. Volunteer training will be provided next spring for all selected volunteers.

“If you want to help support our military veterans and meet some very interesting visitors you are encouraged to contact the museum about a volunteer opportunity,” Thielen said. “You will have a very positive experience if you do.”
