4 students burned in Minn. science class

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) — Four ninth-grade students have been taken to a hospital after suffering burns during a science exercise at Maple Grove Junior High School.

A spokeswoman for the Osseo (AH'-see-oh) School District says the students suffered "mild to severe" burns, but the burns are not life-threatening.

District spokeswoman Barbara Olson tells the Star Tribune ( the students were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.

Olson says the accident involved a flammable gas and papers catching fire. It happened about 9:45 a.m. Thursday in a classroom of about 30 students.

Olson says a "fire coat" was used to extinguish the flames on the students. She says the classroom was evacuated as a precaution.
