America Wants to Work demonstration is Thursday

The Central Lakes Senior Caucus, Brainerd Trades and Labor, and other groups and individuals are conducting another demonstration outside the offices of Rep. Chip Cravaack’s Brainerd office at Brainerd City Hall, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

According to Terry Sluss, co-host of the event, the emphasis of the demonstration is to urge Congressman Cravaack to support job creation programs in central Minnesota, extend the unemployment benefits for those who are unable to find employment during these difficult economic times, and to extend the payroll tax withholding program for working people. The groups also urge the congressman to support legislation to assist returning veterans to gain employment by offering incentives to employers who do hire veterans and disabled veterans.

The demonstration is the seventh one in a series. Others were conducted previously in Garrison City Hall, Ironton City Hall, Brainerd City Hall and in front of the Wells Fargo Bank.

Sluss, who ran for the Minnesota Legislature in 2006 as a DFL-endorsed candidate, said he believes the demonstration will be a peaceful one where constituents are exercising their constitutional right to assemble and to petition the gvernment for a redress of grievances.
