Mille Lacs Band
seeks film producer
ONAMIA — The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is seeking a request for proposal and bid for the production of an hour film documentary on historical film footage from the Sherman Holbert collection of traditional Ojibwe skills performed by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe band members from the 1950-60s.
The Band Tribal Historic Preservation Office has been granted a grant for the production of the film. The footage was purchased by the Band as well as the copyrights from Holbert. The footage contains birch bark canoe making, gathering of reeds for mat and basket making, beading, wild ricing, maple sapping, wigwam construction and dancing.
Bids are being accepted through Dec. 30 and can be sent to Mills Lacs Band of Ojibwe, DNR Building, 45380 Highway 169, Onamia, MN 56359.
